Russia and Ukraine are landlocked neighbors. The US is surrounded by friendly countries and ocean. Drone warfare on the domestic front is a nothing burger.

Ukraine sharing information with us has helped a lot. They learn on the battlefield and then work with our companies to develop new tech and tactics. Maybe it would be more fair and accurate to say we are behind on our drone defense technologies and anti-drone tech. How are we going to protect the homeland from drones like Iran has but also the FPV and Quadcopter style drones. Those are the perfect weapons for terrorist. If terrorist or even the drug cartels managed to smuggle or build Quadcopter and FPV style drones and use them to attack civilians going about everyday life then how could all the Federal agencies and local law enforcement stop these type drones till the terrorist operating them can be found and killed or arrested? If terrorist used a FPV style drones to attack an elementary school for example then how could the cops bring down those drones without putting the public and kids in the school in jeopardy trying to bring them down before they blow up? Will cites and states now have to start recognizing the threat of drone attacks of these types and start passing laws that buildings will have to start being built to protect the public from drone attacks. Especially among sensitive targets like schools, hospitals, churches, government buildings, etc. That’s what I’m saying we are way behind the eight ball on stopping these kind of attacks. We really have not even begun to start wrestling with this problem. The threat of all types of drone attacks is real now. All that needs to happen is for these type weapons to get into the hands of people that wants to kill or harm Americans and sooner or later it’s going to happen. We should be finding ways to not only prevent attacks but killing these things as quickly as possible if they do happen without hurting innocent people in the process. We shouldn’t be sitting around waiting until a elementary school is attacked and a bunch of kids is murdered in the name of Allah before we start addressing this problem.

The drug cartels would never help terrorist I’m sure. Now that we are smoking coke boats in the Gulf and Pacific I doubt they would ever want to get even or take out revenge on the United States.

Iran can launch a Shahed drone in multiple ways. They can launch one out of the back of a pickup truck and they can even be launched from a ship. You hear Trump always talk about how Iran has no Navy because we sunk it. Well a couple of the ships we sunk was old oil carriers converted to be a drone carrier. They had platforms built so drones could take off from the ship like an F18 would an aircraft carrier.

Lastly before Trump had Maduro picked up in Venezuela the terrorist group Hezbollah had a small amount of men in Venezuela. It was a very small group of men if I remember correctly but Hezbollah is still an Iranian proxy. The days of Oceans protecting the United States are over. They have been over for a long time really. All a terrorist group really needs today to do us harm here at home is an internet connection and some fool that lives here to buy their bullshite. Leaving our borders wide open for 4 years certainly didn’t help matters either.

If you are asking what I drank back when I used to drink it was Whiskey. I used to get hung up on a certain brand for a while and then suddenly I would try something different and that became by drink of choice for a while. For the longest I drank Crown and Dr. Pepper. I finally just ended up stopping altogether because Hank Jr was 100% right when he sang the line the hangovers hurt more than they used too. The older I got the worse I felt the next day. I finally just asked myself why do I keep doing this to myself lol and quit. Every now and then about once every year or two I will have a few drinks but it’s a pretty rare occurrence these days.

Ohh okay. So it’s okay then for Russia to bomb and invade the country of Ukraine then is what you’re saying?

Good lord. What are you, 12 years old?

Children do this Cathy Newman crap of “So this {insert extrapolation} is what you’re saying?”

It’s war. Bombing happens. By your logic, every war is a crime. Now, I could actually see that point at a certain level, but that’s not the context you are using.

You literally said Russia is not following the law of war, then use as your justification the fact that they are doing war things.

I think if anything positive came out of Iran it was a wake up call for the US on drone warfare. I think you're going to see a big shift on prioritized military programs particularly in defense.

Rollingwiththetide (Frick Alabama by the way), this is a misleading statement. If you think about all this, every country in the world is unprepared or behind the 8 ball as you put it if the standard is protecting all schools, hospitals, churches, etc. I don't think there's any way to protect everything from all these hypothetical situations. If there is, please educate us.

Range depends on what kind of drone you are talking about and weather conditions and such. From what I have read learning about drones in recent days most of the FPV style drones has a range of anywhere from 5-20 kilometers. Now I totally suck at math but I think that ends up being anywhere from about 3 to 12 miles approximately. A terrorist sitting in a building in a 3 to 12 miles radius from the target he is trying to hit is a lot of ground to cover for law enforcement. Now imagine it’s not one terrorist but a cell of terrorist they have to find and locate. How many people or critical targets could they destroy before law enforcement could even find one of them? Now I didn’t look into this claim but there are reports that Ukraine recently used a drone to hit a target slightly over 100 kilometers away. Now imagine a terrorist cell operating in that range. A lot of people could die or a lot of critical infrastructure could be damaged before law enforcement finds 1 of the terrorist in the cell. How many law enforcement officers would be killed before they could get to the room in the building the terrorist is operating from?

I know people want to treat this like it’s pie in the sky and will never happen. It’s all just overactive imagination or hypothetical. It was hypothetical at one point to think terrorist would use planes as missiles and fly them into buildings. It was also hypothetical at one point to think terrorist could vehicles to ram large crowds full of people. It was hypothetical to think terrorist could use guns to shoot up night clubs, use a knife to go on stabbing sprees, or strap on a vest with explosives attached and then walk into a crowded room or onto a crowded street and detonate those explosives. The threat from all style drones is real and plays out in the streets of Russia and Ukraine everyday. The drones and tactics used in that war is not hypothetical it’s real. Those same weapons and tactics can be exported anywhere in the world including the United States. Its not a unhinged statement to make to say that the United States and Israel is probably the top 2 countries that terrorist groups around the world dream of attacking the most. They are always looking for new ways to attack us that is easy to pull off and will do the maximum amount of damage in the shortest amount of time. All these drones being used in Russia and Ukraine today fit that bill.
