re: Rubio “US is as active in NATO as it’s ever been”. RINOs never disappoint.

Thanks for the discussion. I'm still extremely confused as to what you want.

Why is this a bad statement?
It’s not a bad statement..it’s an idiotic, terrible statement.
NATO was formed as a defense pact against the open declarations of the USSR for world domination by the Soviet state and enjoined by the Warsaw Pact.
Berlin Wall fell, USSR fell, Warsaw Pact fell and 2025 is calling…the big bad Russian Federation of today has never made claims to seize any NATO countries…totally the opposite.
There is absolutely no reason for the USA to be in NATO anymore…bring our troops home
and defend our borders against the actual invasion of illegal drugs and aliens.

We aren’t leaving NATO. You need to learn to deal with it. The Senate will never ever even come close to voting to leave the North Atlantic treaty. Besides, we’re perfectly happy pre-positioning troops in Europe. It aids our operational capability in the Middle East and Africa if nothing else.
Are you one of those people who think that we wouldn’t be spending the same amount of money, if not more, keeping our assets in these places if we left NATO? Interoperability with the NATO nations is a plus as well.
There really is no negative to being in NATO. The only people who think so have no understanding of how NATO works. It’s the people who think we actually pay for other NATO members defense because they are ignorant on what “NATO funding” is.

We need you to get in contact with the WH Chief of Staff and let him know that you, along with NPR and CNN, think the President is clueless and needs to stop being ignorant as you claim.

Other nations paying less than 2% doesn’t mean the US is paying a single dollar over what we’d pay regardless
It just means they’re neglecting their own militaries. Besides, the places where our forces are “needed” like the Baltics and Poland are (1) some of the only nations that actually do spend what they should and (2) are not large enough to actually defend themselves even with 100% conscription. Those nations are our best allies in the world.
We would have people and infrastructure and these places either way.
France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, and Canada are the embarrassing under-capable members. They are the ones who could actually contribute in a general war outside their own borders. They are the ones not doing what they should.
The big, rich nations in NATO are the moochers. Not the smaller Eastern and Central European members. This is why Sweden and Finland are good additions. Two nations with domestic defense programs that actually bring something to the table.

Based on what? Please explain to me like I’m 5 how any Baltic country is one of our “best allies in the world”…this is crazy talk.
You have lost your grip on reality.

Do i mean that Lithuania or Poland could help the United States if we were under attack at home? No.
When I say they are among our best allies in the world, I mean that they invest in their own defense (relative to their own GDP), cooperate with the US very closely, and recognize that their security is due to our contribution. They are gracious friends in ways that the western european nations are not. Just look at the ceremony Lithuania held for the US soldiers that died in the incident last week. They had thousands of people in tears holding US flags at 11 in the morning. You won't see that in Paris or Brussels. Poland spends more on their military than we do, as a function of GDP.
"Best allies" doesn't mean most capable, it means the allies that act like allies, even if they are small.

You gave a thoughtful response in defense of your position. Although I disagree with your position on our role in NATO, no reason for me to have been a smart arse to you and I apologize.

Fair enough. I believe there is plenty of recalibration needed within NATO, mostly that the major European/NATO nations need to get their shite together. Looking at you Canada, Germany, UK, France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
I understand the NATO skepticism absolutely. But NATO isn't strained because of the central and eastern European members. They know what is at stake and they are acting like it. Its our "strongest partners" in London, Paris, and Berlin that have allowed their capabilities to erode to the point of useless mooching.
It is insane how far they have fallen. France is a slight exception, they just keep their forces small and compact. But between Canada, the UK and Germany--ostensibly the most powerful non-US or French members.....combined they cannot even field an armored division. Their fleets are laughable. The Brits can barely escort their new ski-jump carriers. The Germans and Canadians have basically eliminated their navies. Their air power is woefully inprepared as well.
Its ok to me that the Czechs or Slovenians or Latvians only have a single squadron of Gripens or lack armor. Its really goddamn embarrassing when G7 nations like Canada or the UK are in the same boat.

Pull out of NATO, or threaten to, and see how fast this tariff shite goes away.
Wouldn't affect us one bit...would actually save us serious money.

I said 1,000 times when they were named that Rubio/Stefanik/Waltz/Hook/Gorka are Israel first neocons and that even Pete has some fanatical views. I still think little Marco is doing OK, but they may all be plants undermining DJT.
