I'm open minded about what y'all are saying. But IMHO following the wrong thread to, first and foremost, find out if there is a second person involved. Unfortunately we don't have what we need...

The van and the explosives are the key:
- Where did he get the expertise?
- Did he have help in making the explosives?
- Why didn't his transmitter and igniter work?

Find out about the explosives you just might confirm there are others involved, then can follow the threads to what did the additional person(s) do and what their roles were.

IF you confirm there were addl. people involved it opens up all those theories.
