Reports just starting to circulate that a Mig 21 Romanian Fighter Jet was flying near the Black Sea, and has gone down! The rescue helicopter sent after it also went down! There is currently a British Air Force Recon Plane in the area trying to figure out what happened.

If true, and if Russia had something to do with it, that could be trouble...

Reports of bad weather in the area... Mig 21s aren't known for being very easy to fly.

Both seemingly crashed. Both sites were found near the airport.

There is nothing here.

I’m not the conspiracy type, but If Russia shot them down, I can see that info being classified so no one knows we know and there’s no pressure on NATO to retaliate.

Losing 1 - accident. Losing 2 - not a coincidence.

Unless it’s flat out dangerous conditions. Then you’d have to ask why either were in the air to begin with.

They've located the plane? This is the last thing I saw about an hour ago. Apparently the weather was pretty bad

Just looked it up. 32 degrees. A few snow showers in the area. No storms/fronts. Wind 12mph with gusts to 14.

Visibility 10mi.
Ceiling 1,700 feet (I think that’s kinda low).

Doesn’t sound like something that should bother a military jet or military chopper, let alone both.

Now consider all the commercial air traffic going through Romainia. Maybe someone can check if local flights have been canceled.

But those aircraft are much less maneuverable. And non of them have crashed.

Unless it was intentional, nothing will come of it. NATO isn’t going to war over an airplane, or a single Romanian pilot.

They still have old MIG 21s in circulation? Those date to the early 1960s and probably just had engine problems or such and crashed.

Jeebus, even if it was the last aircraft off the production line, it would be almost 40 years old. Romania needs to update their stuff, badly.

Almost as bad as that weather that grounded all those Southwest Airlines jets a few months ago...
