The power to tax is the power to punish, we've said. The contempt power of County Commissioners, if they have any at all, to punish those that refuse to speak? I'm not sure from where that authority arrived. They aren't going to stop, friends. Every other day it's another increment with an eye toward tyranny. They are boiling the frog. You'll say I'm melodramatic; that's fine. But I've been around this rock long enough to know it when I see it, and this is ever more repugnant to liberty.

What authority does a county have to arbitrarily issue a subpoena to compel someone to divulge personal information?
Wouldn't there need to be a suit filed for the use of a subpoena?
What prevents the individual from simply taking the fifth?

I’m assuming if your subpoenaed and give fake names that’s lying to an investigator maybe or obstruction... I’m not a lawyer but I’m sure the dumbasses thought about people giving fake names and have a way of ruining their lives.
