Obamacare was a law passed by Congress. I didn’t care for Roberts characterizing the mandate as a tax, but it was most definitely a Congressional act. With tariffs, Trump is attempting to levy a tax on his own. So, not the same at al

It's like these idiots don't even read the thread. Trump isn't even close to the first to do this. Tariffs have been in place for a very long time. Levied by many presidents without congressional approval because Congress has given up that authority long ago.

This isn't a genie you can just put back in the bottle and this is why Trump rightly says that our country can't survive this.

So if this gets struck down do they clowns expect the funds to be returned?

it really wouldnt matter as there would be no way for the US to maintain any leverage while negotiating trade agreements and executing foreign policy (these go hand in hand) without the ability to impose tariffs. Other countries will just increase tariffs as a response knowing the US wont be able to do anything about it..We'll see how it shakes out, Im still a believer that there are more people here that love our country then hate it..

So are you saying they should now consult YOU on what can be tariffed or not? Can you see how stupid your argument is?

Well Congress passed laws long before I was born that both Trump and Biden used to impose tariffs.

So this is just silly to me if we are only going to reverse 2025 and forget the past 80 years or so.

The rules the rules… they apply when their enforced… unfortunately(fortunately for the American people)for Trump they are about to be enforced

And we will then need to cut spending in the amount of the lost tariff revenue. A good start is that ridiculous spending request by Democrats that is holding the government closed. And since that spending has already been cut in another bill, the actual cuts will need to come from somewhere else.

Agree?

I'm with this guy. If SCOTUS doesn't do the right thing here it is time to go scorched earth.

So for Obama care, he said it could survive as a tax, but for Trump, he wants to argue since it’s a tax on Americans, Trump can’t impose? Seems like that’s some assumed word substitution there, but what do I know?

By Roberts’ argument, it makes sense. ACA was passed by congress and signed into law by Obama.

Of course you don't "understand it." You've already shown to have the reading comprehension skills of a grade schooler.

There already is such a law. Read the Trade Act of 1974 Trump has the authority.

Roberts knows it too.

The man stopped 8 freaking wars with that power. He needs to be able to wield it. I get the argument and sympathize. If it requires a legislative move then lets blow the dam on the filibuster and get this done. If he doesn't already have the ability, he should. Make it happen immediately.

Both Biden and Trump used laws in place to impose tariffs.

Trust me, I’ve been reading. A lot of posters in this board don’t. They bow down to the globalist headlines.

Look how many times Presidents used the Trade Act of 1974 to impose tariffs. There's precedent. Trump has the authority.
