quote:They gave that to my mom. We were doing hospice in home at my sisters. She had some sort of nausea cocktail pump, morphine every 3 hours I think and some other stuff. The morphine actually helped her breathe easier. She went through 60 5 mg roxicet's every 15 days. They'd just show up at the door. That's the way to get drugs. Get someone in Hospice. They ask no questions and just pump 'em full of narcotics. She did, in her defense, have stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized to her lungs, liver and brain. It was a rough 3 1/2 months. Buried her the day after this past Thanksgiving. Anyways, sorry for getting off topic.
The worst is morphine imo. It’s what they give Stage 3 cancer patients and a lot of people in hospice care. There is no pleasure it makes you sick to your stomach and fricks with your respiratory system big time.

what is fentanyl? Is it a form of synthetic heroin?
Fentanyl is an IV drug. It has been the mainstay narcotic in the OR for >30yrs.
It is 100X more potent than Morphine, 50X more potent than Heroin.
It is far shorter-acting and has fewer cardiovascular side effects than MSO4 or Heroin, and has fewer psychogenic and/or euphoric effects.
So Fentanyl's abuse potential should be far less than either MSO4 or Heroin.
Heroin is not used in medicine.
Morphine is typically used for nonintraoperative pain management along with Demerol and Dilaudid.
Fentanyl is used for >90 of intraoperative/anesthesia pain mgt. It is available in slow release forms like a patch for a chronic pain to something like oxycontin or hydrocodone, but I'd think illegally processing it that way would be impractical.
If you've had surgery, it's a virtual certainty you were given fentanyl

Fentanyl/Herion/Oxy/Morphine are all depressants
Cocaine and Meth are stimulates
Completely different types of drugs. Mixing the two together is usually called a speedball. Why it is so dangerous is because the half-life is different.
Mixing them together allows you to have the relaxing high of the depressant and the intense rush of the stimulant. The stimulant high doesn’t last as long and one of the side effects of the drugs wearing off is vomiting. Which in some cases isn’t a overdose it is drowning in your own vomit.
Chris Farley, John Belushi, Ken Caminiti, River Phoenix, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and many more have died from speedballing.
Fentanyl makes it worse because of its potency. As the stimulant high starts wearing down speedballers continue to use more which causes overdoses more frequently than the mixture of herion or other depressants.

quote:All narcs can do that. No experience with Heroin in that regard, but in the medical realm nausea more or less tracks w/ psychogenic effects, and inversely with potency. So ironically the greater the abuse potential, the more relative likelihood the drug has to cause nausea. Demerol > Morphine > Dilaudid > Fentanyl.
took one and it made me completely nauseated. I had to lay still or I was going to blow chunks

I can see how people get addicted to painkillers. I had 6 Kidney Stones and the doctor gave me Hydrocodone. I could take one every 4 hours and it wore off after 2 hours. After 2 days I quit taking it and dealt with the pain mainly laying in the bathroom floor or bathtub.

Fentanyl? This proves col-u-zuhn. Trump is a bad man.

Kidney stones are as painful as anything we deal with.
PO narcotics are okay, but basically just slightly dull KS pain.
Not very effective.

The medical application for Fentanyl is most commonly a transdermal patch that releases a dosage based on micrograms through the skin at an hourly rate over 3 days through the skin. (Read this as: It’s potent)
People are knowingly or unknowingly injecting a medication normally absorbed through the skin directly into their blood stream.
That is why people are dying.
This isn’t necessarily political, either. The crackdown on pill form opioids started during Obama. I witnessed it first hand.
Cracking down on doctors did cut off the easy supplies of Percocet, Lortab, T3s, etc but drove the addicts to heroin and other less safe means by which to get their fix.
The opioid crises was caused by the government. The government drove pill heads that knew what they were getting into harsher, more questionable methods to get high and that is why they are dying.

So why are Democrats opposed to putting up even 1 foot of new wall?
Another disingenuous exaggeration. Where did Democrats say they are opposed to one foot of wall? Or even a small amount of wall? If you want a real conversation try to avoid childish like exaggerations.

'd be willing to bet that a very small percentage of illicit fentanyl use is from domestically produced sources
Maybe. Either way there's this thing called the dark web and people can pretty easily have things shipped into their house without having to go across the Mexican border

Fentanyl deaths would not decrease at all because of a wall

Pretty sure you have to account for every oz. of Fentanyl produced, since it is highly controlled medically.
You're right. When habe Pharmaceutical supplies ever gotten loose among Society? How silly of me.
quote:
You act as if the Pharm companies are making this and selling this on the streets.
I didn't say that at all. That's you assuming.
quote:
Ah, but there's the boogeyman for you. Big Scary Pharm.
There are the people that keep us dependent on their product and aren't especially big fans of cures. Once again another right-wing person defending some of the worst organizations that exist.
quote:
But meanwhile, you all for open borders.
No. Not at all. You guys just started screaming about this couple of years ago when this is the way it's been since the beginning of this country but now you want to insist like it's the Democrats that are causing this problem. It's idiotic and you should feel ashamed for it.
quote:
Oh and how large was that fentanyl bust a few weeks back that came across the southern border? You know, the largest bust ever?
And look how they busted it without a wall lol jackass

It’s because the dealers are using it to lace other drugs like weed and cocaine but if you don’t know it’s laced you will do too much very easily
I'm not saying this has never happened but it is very rare.

quote:Happily, were there any proof. There really isn't. We have no idea what is crossing the unsecured border because . . . we simply have no idea what is crossing the unsecured border. This stuff is so potent that a pound of pure fentanyl is enough to kill 1.5 million people. That could come across nearly anywhere. Might be easier to get it in via Mexico. A "wall agnostic" would know that.
You could have just said I was right and called it a day
