Federal agents are prevented from dispersing, arresting, threatening to arrest, or using force against them, a ruling says

14-day temporary order following a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon, which cited statements from journalists and legal observers who said they had been targeted by authorities

It should be fairly obvious. As if they can just blend in to look like a reporter.

Geez, wearing fake credentials for a fake profession. That’s like having a fake degree to make fake Gucci bags.

Press passes don't give you immunity from burning down federal buildings

What happens if credentials fall off in a scuffle and go missing?

So nice of the ACLU to finally show up. Everything is corrupt.

The issue here is there isn’t any definitive criteria or certifications that makes someone a journalist.

You don’t even need a camera or even pen and paper. The two only things that are needed to classify someone as a journalist is they tell the news and have some sort of a platform. Your Facebook page could be considered a source of news.

So yeah.....shits dumb. Every single person there probably has some form of social media and that gives the potential for every single person to be able to be classified as a journalist.

Same goes for “legal observer”. What’s the requirement to be considered that?

Just to further my point....there’s no requirement that you have to carry a credential on a public road.

I think the difference lies in their actions. They’re either truly peacefully observing, or they’re participating.

I would hope a phony lanyard wouldn’t change the end results of one’s actions.

They're also pretending to be field medics, by donning red duct tape, fashioned to look like the Red Cross, on their very black shirts.

I think you’re missing my point of the fact that every single person, including the two of us, has the inherent potential of accurately being able to call ourselves a journalist.

The ACLU can potentially sue on behalf for any person there that comes into conflict with police based on this.

They've been pushing something similar in Louisville:

Live stream to facebook, so I'm untouchable. They even get yellow journalist vests to wear. Interesting loophole they are exploiting here. "Who is a journalist" is kind of getting turned on its head right now.

If I am actively engaged in or appear to be engaged in the commission of a crime, it is not the responsibility of LE to determine my identity until after I have been detained either...

I agree with what you are saying, BTW...

Gee, sounds like registration of reporters may be on the agenda.

And anyone registering who did so under false pretenses would get federal PMITA prison.

What about those that call themselves reporters but just spout their opinions and make shite up... could this possibly weed some of those frickers out?
