The House voted to pass legislation on Thursday to protect same-sex and interracial marriage, the last step before the measure goes to President Joe Biden for his signature and becomes law.

The House vote was 258 to 169 with 39 Republicans joining the Democrats voting in favor. Loud applause broke out in the chamber when the vote was gaveled to a close.

While the bill would not set a national requirement that all states must legalize same-sex marriage, it would require individual states to recognize another state’s legal marriage.

The push for a vote on federal legislation protecting same-sex marriage rapidly gained momentum after the Supreme Court in June overturned its landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The bill, called the Respect for Marriage Act, passed the Senate with a vote of 61 to 36 last week. The bill was supported by all members of the Senate Democratic caucus and 12 Republicans.

In the event the Supreme Court might overturn its 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision that legalized same-sex marriage, a state could still pass a law to ban same-sex marriage, but that state would also be required to recognize a same-sex marriage from another state.

NC_Tigah and oogabooga68 were concerned about changes to this bill, but as I said it would, it passed the House without change and is now going to Biden for his signature.

You can spray perfume on a pile of shite and call it fragrant, but it's still a pile of shite.

You can call a gay union a marriage if you like, but it's not, really.

So, gloves coming off to attack churches?

Force churches to accept same sex marriages or lose your exemption.

This is not enough.

Congress needs to pass the Respect for Respect for Marriage Act to ensure everyone respects marriage. Send your donations here.

And will still be used to harass people based on their religious beliefs by Democrats and their slavish Judges, 100%, guaranteed.

If they can find abortion rights where they don't exist, have no doubt they WILL find a way to lie and pervert this Bill, no matter the actual language....it's what they do.

cool. so since one state has to recognize another state's marriage license, when do we make it where one state has to recognize another states's concealed carry license.

Ah, the irony of "respecting" marriage by defiling it.

Here's why the language of the Bill doesn't matter when dealing with Democrats:

Democrat: "What are your thoughts on marriage?"

Conservative: "I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman"....

Democrat: "OMFG , WHY ARE YOU SO HOMOPHOBIC AND WANT TO PRETEND THAT GAY PEOPLE DONT EXIST AND WANT ALL GAY PEOPLE TO BE MURDERED, IM GOING TO FIND OUT WHERE YOU WORK AND HAVE YOU FIRED AND MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN ARE OUTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND HARASSED TO THE POINT THEY HATE YOU OR WANT TO COMMIT SUICIDE, YOU BIGOT...."

Calling that the “Respect For Marriage Act” just tells you (1) confidence of the left in the current environment (2) their view of the level of stupidity of people in general and (3) weak arse republicans and how they don’t represent their voters.

The definition of marriage by a government is only a local and temporal definition. The definition of marriage by the Church is a universal and eternal definition.

It does not matter. This administration is illegitimate and their laws will not stand.
