Senate Republicans are mounting an urgent campaign to save Attorney General William Barr’s job — fearful that his dismissal or resignation would deprive President Donald Trump of an effective enforcer of his agenda and hand the Senate a vacancy that’s nearly impossible to fill.

The effort to keep Barr in place through at least the 2020 election comes at a high point of tension between Trump and Barr, fueled by Trump’s efforts to influence the Justice Department’s handling of Roger Stone’s sentencing. Barr has said Trump’s tweets make doing his job “impossible,” and he has reportedly considered resigning.

Literally called this last night. For all the posters who want Barr gone and want a loyalist. You will never get it, not with this senate and not with the current senate map open in 2020.

If Trump were to ditch Barr, or if the attorney general resigned, the Senate would be unlikely to confirm a successor “any time soon,” Cornyn predicted. Republicans are fighting to save their Senate majority and reelect Trump in November, and having to handle a new nominee amid Trump's interference with DOJ would be unwelcome in GOP circles and require vulnerable senators to take a potentially tough confirmation vote

You have to constantly keep kicking republicans in the arse to get them to man up.

Who do you want as AG that can get appointed? Realistically not some pipe dream.

Why can't Trump be president and stop meddling in jobs that are beneath him. Needs to stop micromanaging and play more golf after nominating someone.

bullshite his whole presidency has been nothing but micromanaging. That is his style it is what he does and has done throughout his entire career. He runs a tight ship and is always heavily involved. It works for him.

Micromanaging is NOT the same thing as running folks the frick off for not doing what you hired them to do.

Remarkable cowardice!

Mitch McConnell needs to either retire or at minimum step down from his leadership role. He is and has always been a giant pussy.

If he and the party are afraid that if he retires that his seat would fall to a Dem, fine. But at least step down as majority leader.

Leaders shouldn’t be cowardly pussies.

The leftward trajectory of American politics over the course of my lifetime is due in no small part to cowardice just like that consistently exhibited by McConnell.

People are better persuaded by a confident defense of a controversial position than a a tepid defense of a popular position, and certainly more so than a mere avoidance of having to espouse a position at all.

Grow a pair Mitch or GTFO of the way.

For clarification, I’m neither pro nor anti-Barr. I am becoming weary though with some of what has come out in recent weeks.

If Mitch is going to ask the President to back off away from Barr, it should be because he has confidence in Barr, not because he’s afraid to vote on a replacement.

The reasoning behind why these Senators are begging Trump to leave Barr alone is very telling.

this is some of the dumbest shite i have ever read here.
I almost would embrace a second trump term if mcconnell was no longer in his leadership role.

If Barr resigns there will just be some temporary AG who will take orders from Trump .....its what he is doing with DHS currently. Trump runs DHS.

I really don't think this board or even Trump himself has considered what kind of AG that could replace Bill Barr with this senate and election year being a factor.

Bill Barr is about as good as it gets in this DOJ.

The last thing we need this election season is a big confirmation fight for an Attorney General and vulnerable GOP senators being put through the ringer for that. frick that noise.
