Shouldn't... POTUS can send in military ATCs to cover the towers and NG to do the work of TSA... Fire the ones that do not show up...

The airlines and air freight carriers should be paying for air traffic control and the airports. The government need only impose safety standards.

Yea I bet all of the republicans that just learned that they were spied on by democrats are really going to jump through hoops to help the democrats out

Gosh get the pitchforks and let's start firing essential employees before they've done anything.
ATCs know they cannot strike. They are forced to work during shutdowns without being paid. Yes, they will be paid once the shutdown is over, but how long can they last? At some point, they will have to pay their mortgages, food bills, electricity, etc. Do you expect them to keep working without pay indefinitely? Would you? No, you wouldn't.
You just want to fire somebody.
The 1981 strike took ten years of massive hiring numbers to recover from. The system is way more understaffed now than in 1981. You want to fire 10,000 of them and just replace with supervisors who work traffic 16 hours a month and military controllers who would need a year to learn the airspace and get on the job training from....oh yeah, supervisors who work 16 hours a month.
Instead of rushing to fire ATCs who are understaffed and working more overtime than ever (for no pay), maybe you should instead thank them for showing up so your Amazon packages arrive on time and you can go to Vegas. They aren't the enemy.

Time for the Air Force to take these jobs over.

Nah but folks that are throwing a tantrum and not showing up to work, you are damn straight, fire their asses...

The Republicans will fold and the Dems know it. The longer they hold out, the more heat will come down on the GOP. When the GOPers go home and face angry, belligerent constituents they will cave. The GOP support will tank soon and they will be blamed for the shutdown.

Yeah let some military controllers work Chicago/NY/Atlanta, etc approach control during thunderstorm season and let us know how that works out.

No show lose your job for insubordination and that will stick.

I don’t want to fire anyone.
I’m just asking questions.

This is how every shutdown has gone since the 1990s.

They will be replaced by AI soon

Another wasted republican senate, house, and presidency.

It would take months to have adequately trained personnel who know the airspace and procedures for essential manning positions in ATC towers and radar rooms across the country. Firing qualified personnel is not the answer.

Update:
It’s spreading.
More no shows, sick outs now in
Atlanta
Seattle
LA
Salt Lake City
Phoenix
Denver
Dallas Love
DFW
Kansas City
Minneapolis St Paul
Chicago Midway
Miami
NYC La Guardia
NYC JFK
Newark
Delays and cancellations are multiplying.
This will force Republicans to fold and give Democrats what they want if past occurrence are any indication.

Yeah, well you can move the ATCs with more experience around to cover the larger centers and fill in with the military... Its almost like everything is all or nothing with folks nowadays... There are some ATCs showing up...

The Democrats know this, that’s why they’re hanging tough. The GOP is about to get the blame for the shutdown. This hands the 2026 midterms to the Democrats.

TSA is easy.
