Their job is supposed to inherently boring. Just report facts black and white and move on.
Their job description is not to entertain.
That’s the problem.
We should not know the names of 90% of these “reporters”. All of them are trying to make a name and get paid for themselves. They are not unlike the reality star wannabes.
News should be boring and have no ratings.
What we have now is E! Television masquerading as “news”

You just identified a big part of the problem. When reporters start believeing they're bigger than the story then it becomes easy for them to insert their own bias in place of fact.

We have tabloid journalism and it’s a disservice to the citizens of this country.

news is a business like everything else, so they're supposed to do what it takes to make money.

Do you even sensationalize bro

The problem is we don’t want news and facts as consumers
We want to have what we already think reaffirmed.
24 hour news is stupid. There isn’t 24 hours worth of actual news.

Corporate news is all about sensationalism to get clicks.
It's not news any longer. It's a product to sell to a specific market.

While true, it’s also true that we’re suppose to seek out the boring reporting so as to best inform ourselves. But by and large, we don’t collectively do that.
If we’re going to criticize the news for becoming entertainment, then we also need to criticize the population who gobbles up that entertainment spoonfuls at a time. The news has evolved to meet the demands of their consumers, so we certainly deserve a portion of the blame as well.

The Weather Channel is a prime example of this.
Just give me the damned weather!

Every journalist is an aspiring novelist intent upon writing that Great American Novel, when the truth is, most of them probably can’t even spell properly.

The advent of the 24 hour news cycle was the beginning of the end for objective journalism.
Know who pioneered the 24/7 news cycle? CNN.

I do not have a problem with a reporter being entertaining, it is the liberal bias that is the real problem.

I am a professor of communications. Most of my students end up in corporate public relations, and that's where my area of expertise lies, but I do interact with journalism colleagues and students.
The field of communications as a whole has always been very narcissistic. Whether its the sorority girl who has nothing but her looks and ends up a news anchors or the student that doesn't have the looks but "wants to change the world," our field attracts those students.
You have some outliers, like myself, but my students normally have thousands of followers on social media, take tons of selfies, and believe that they were put on this earth to make a difference.
Take the Buzzfeed thing yesterday. Those reporters and their editors were being praised all day by their colleagues. They were being hailed as heroes. In the business world, when they were exposed as complete frauds, heads will roll - but no, their colleagues in other media are toting water for them.
Its the same thing with the Gillette ad. That ad wasn't made to sell razors, it was made so they would be the talk of the advertising community, win awards that they believe are prestigious, etc. Its the Dixie Chicks syndrome. The Dixie Chicks were a joke outside of country music before they trashed Bush. They trashed Bush, their album sales declined, and they started winning Grammys all of a sudden.
