By the mid 1600s, large numbers of persons from the Indian subcontinent were moving to the British Isles. So many had done so that Britain actually drafted legislation to limit their numbers. That legislation was not particularly effective.

By the mid-1800s there were approximately 50,000 persons of Indian dissent living in the British Isles. There were also several tens of thousands of persons of African dissent, both directly from Africa in from the Caribbean.

Between 1800 and 1950, almost 2.5 million persons migrated/immigrated to the British Isles… Largely from British overseas territories.
