common sense solutions

I hate this term. People use it all the time. What it really means is this:

I have a position that is correct and anything contrary to that is illogical. How else could it be? My solution is "common sense".

Good for them. It's their right to make the decisions they want as a company. I've been a coop member for around 10 years.

I'll simply look elsewhere for my outdoor products. Maybe Vista will look into their own stores.

As a long time REI member and credit card holder- why would I give a shite about this?

I shop there because it’s a great retail experience and the staff actually knows what they are talking about and seem happy working there. This won’t affect that at all.

Same reason I go to Target over Walmart and Chikfila over McDonald’s.

That would be amusing if they did this and really put a hurt on REI

I think one day gun manufacturers will just start running their own stores. Instead of driving to Cabelas or Bass Pro, one day you will be driving to Glock, Ruger or Springfield. That’s what I would do if I was them.

You are arguing with yourself. Nobody said it was a 2A issue.

Did you even read the OP?

Common sense dictates that suppliers pulling supply from the shelf is bad for consumers at least in the short run.

False. Some. Consumers might want thus stock pulled, and having it pulled might free up other stock more preferable to more consumers. This is only bad for consumers who want these items from REI. We see this kind of stuff all the time in retail and entertainment. Whether or not this works out well for REI is to be seen. I'm guessing it will in some places but not in others, and overall they will lose.

Most of the goods covered by this have something that is identical or close to it.

I doubt consumers will even notice, unless they need a replacement part (say camelback bladder).

Now, the holding company will likely notice.

I don't personally shop at REI anymore. After they removed their replacement guarantee, I switched to amazon for most of my purchases. It is a lot cheaper, and paying more works if you can replace it.

Huh, I had no idea that they did away with that. That was 75% of the reason I used them... Bummer.

They aren't gonna hurt REI. They got the Patagonia market all sewn up.

The reality is that most businesses don't want their wares to be used in violent crimes. If they think they can limit that situation through some kind of campaign or restriction on sales, then good for them. It will probably fail, and they will look stupid. So what? That's the great part about the market.

So Vista is supposed to pretend to invest in this faux outrage and waste time and resources negatively marketing against themselves?
