REI stops carrying products by Vista Outdoors
Posted by Lonnie Utah on 3/5/18 at 10:17 am466
Because Vista Outdoors is the parent company for Savage, Federal ammunition, CCI and several other firearm related products. They also are the parent company for brands like Bushnell, Bolle, Camelbak, Giro (helmets) and many other companies that make outdoor products. Here is REI's statement.
But if you search REI's website, they still sell all of thse killing machines.
I've been a REI coop member for many year. Until the ban on Vista outdoors is lifted, I'll be shopping at companies that value my 2nd amendment rights.

REI statement on relationship with Vista Outdoor
03.01.2018
REI does not sell guns. We believe that it is the job of companies that manufacture and sell guns and ammunition to work towards common sense solutions that prevent the type of violence that happened in Florida last month. In the last few days, we’ve seen such action from companies like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart and we applaud their leadership.
This week, we have been in active discussions with Vista Outdoor, which has recently acquired several companies that are longtime partners of REI. These include Giro, Bell, Camelbak, Camp Chef and Blackburn. Vista also owns Savage Arms, which manufactures guns including “modern sporting rifles.”
This morning we learned that Vista does not plan to make a public statement that outlines a clear plan of action. As a result, we have decided to place a hold on future orders of products that Vista sells through REI while we assess how Vista proceeds.
Companies are showing they can contribute if they are willing to lead. We encourage Vista to do just that.
But if you search REI's website, they still sell all of thse killing machines.

This is the most idiotic statement and sentiment I've read throughout this whole Florida shooting.

I pray daily that REI goes out of business. Their CEO is full-on cuck mode.
These guys really want to put gun mfgers out of business and I hope the gun mfgers have a plan to snuff them out (pun intended of course)

Not REI too
Not surprising, the CEOs said stupid shite like this before.
Still love those REI Garage Sales, though.

This has nothing to do with the 2A. This is freedom of association. This is EXACTLY how the world should be working.

I remember the good ole days when companies ran from making political statements. When will it all end?!?

I'd rather firearms and sporting goods companies work on this issue than the state.

What was their stance after the shooting of the Republican's softball practice? Just wondering out loud.

I wouldn't bet that the "common sense" solution that REI is envisioning doesn't somehow involve "the state."

Ok, well then I would reject any effort to include the state. This effort, however, is pretty much exactly what everyone should be ok with. REI can virtue signal their fricking balls off and someone else can come pick up that lost business, and life moves on.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It doesn’t bother me so much that they are cutting off a supplier as much as their public self-felatio over it does. “Mega Corp Inc. is a paragon of virtue and will not stand for the problematic lack of signaling from its supplier SomeOther llc.”

The reality is that most businesses don't want their wares to be used in violent crimes. If they think they can limit that situation through some kind of campaign or restriction on sales, then good for them. It will probably fail, and they will look stupid. So what? That's the great part about the market.

I think all of these companies virtue signaling is humorous.
I mean, I'm all about private enterprise selling what they wish so, more power to em. But, it's funny because it's basically like pissing in the ocean to raise water levels.
If people still want to buy the guns in question, people will still sell them. Some company refusing to sell them doesn't change this reality.
Every single seller of chicken tomorrow could refuse to sell chicken and before you could even get aggravated by it, someone else who recognized people want to buy chicken would be selling chicken.
