Cuba was like a big version of Cancun before Castro. They made a lot of money on tourism and sugar cane. If they go free market democracy the tourism will return fast because the beaches are still in great shape. The sugar giant will return if the U.S. drops the import bans that were imposed due to communism. They have 2 growing seasons per year and Cuban imports will just cause La. cane farmers to switch to other crops.

Trump is clearly swinging for foreign policy legacy moves to put in his library. Maduro, Iran, Ukraine-Russia, Palestine, etc.
At least Cuba makes sense - it's on the ropes and unsustainable, on our doorstep, and probably a (perhaps minor) domino that needs to fall for Fortress America.

Exactly. Their golden boy JFK couldn't get it done. Nor could Clinton or Obama. The fact that Trump got something done that their Mt. Rushmore couldn't will be galling to them.
