Nevermind the testimony, what about the emails?

So we have motive, but I believe we already had that.

quote:

For example, in emails regarding how the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision could imperil the Democrats' majority in the Senate, Lerner wrote that she hoped the Federal Election Commission would “save the day,” apparently by curtailing political speech

....aaaand an admission that the targeting was politically biased.

quote:

In another email referencing a news article about the businessmen and benefactors Charles and David Koch, Lerner suggested the IRS should begin a “project” to rein in political speech but to craft it in such a way as to avoid the appearance of focusing on political activity.

I wonder what "problem" she is talking about here?

quote:

The emails show concern from Lerner about the Citizens United case decision hurting Democrats in the upcoming Senate elections. One document shows Lerner saying the Supreme Court gave the issue to the IRS “to fix the problem.”

And we know execution of the plan:

quote:

Ultimately, the Oversight report says, Lerner personally placed all Tea Party applicants through a “multi-tier review.” An IRS employee testified that Lerner “sent [him an] e-mail saying that when these cases need to go through multi-tier review and they will eventually have to go to [Judy Kindell, Lerner’s senior technical advisor] and the Chief Counsel’s office.” A D.C. IRS employee said this level of scrutiny had no precedent.

I don't see how any american citizen with knowledge of how the political system was designed and the intent of that design could see this as something that is acceptable.

It doesn't matter if this went to Obama or not, it highlights that the IRS has way too much power and needs to be stripped of that power. We need a tax system that treats everybody in the same fair manner, regardless of political views, gender, sexual preference, and social class.

That being said, I believe that because the level of scrutiny having to go to the white house implicates individuals that are close to Obama.

Everyone involved needs to serve time in jail for gross violations of civil and constitutional rights.

I owe a lot this year. I could almost physically harm this woman. She is as good of a target as any for me right now.

They are all arrogant in their power, and I've met a lot of them. They are disgusting and vile excuses of human beings.

If just one of them ever had to meet a payroll one time.

Because, I did build this, and they are spending money, way outside of what the framers ever envisioned. And they are arrogant about it.

All of them. But mostly elitist liberals.

Bump for anyone who would like to offer legal authority more on point than the case offered in the OP

The law is STILL on her side, despite today's GOP circus.

This is also pretty revealing:

The chances that a Federal judge will agree that she waived her Fifth Amendment rights are extremely low

Unfortunately, we live in a time of dishonest Republican Supreme Court justices who have, time after time, ignored stare decisis in favor of contortionist partisan rhetoric.

Even If the House does vote in favor of contempt, DC District Court will throw this one out easy.

Wasting time and money and confusing waaaayy too many Republicans in the meantime. Can't have that.

Man I really hate the whole state of politics. All in the name of whose side you are on, we will not hold corrupt individuals responsible for their actions. This is why our govt agencies perform so poorly across the board. ZERO accountability. Congrats on the win...

Show me the corruption here. I haven't seen any so far with this IRS "scandal".

I don't just assume the corruption without first seeing evidence of it.

There's an ongoing FBI investigation. If there is any "there" there then I assume they'll find it.

Buying themselves political showtime, even when they know they're wrong, on the public dime.

If your boss calls you into your office and asks you to explain what happened, can you plead the fifth and keep your job?

If I'm not mistaken, I think I already asked this in this thread (or one similar) to no avail.

why are they wasting time? Our president already said there was nothing there. Do you think he said that from knowledge or as direction to the FBI?
