You're right but your missing the point...infosec isn't for our enemies...

It's for us...

Snowden leaked the nonstop spying to us,
Winner leaked Russians suck again to us...(what a crappy reason to leak anything)

Individuals within the NSA, but there are so many layers to the Onion, it's only a matter of time before a disseminator is busted.

well its pretty clear winner had no idea what she was doing.

Most of the leaks have been to WaPo and NYT, and they aren't providing documents.

Well, I think he has a bit more insight than mensch. And he does raise interesting questions about it. he does seem to see a boogeyman behind everything.

what is odd is his column is published by the observer, kushner owned.

Winner admitted, rather stupidly, to the arresting FBI Agents she leaked the info. Winner knew what she was doing.

NSA/DIA know what docs the WAPO/NYT have. Rest assured, they know.

Lol

Speculative

It's odd and one can think of myriad reasons beyond Russians.

Of course, that requires a little less attachment to TDS

Winner was in contact with The Intercept from her work computer. This tells you 100% of what you need to know about the counterintelligence program at her employer. It was so lackadaisical that it wasn’t even feared.

Her employer should not get another dime of US tax dollars. That contract should be immediately voided, and the contractor prohibited from ever having another government contract.

Um. The computer she was on was almost certainly a GOVERNMENT computer within a GOVERNMENT AGENCY

You people don't know what the term contractor means here

you're absolutely right

it makes no sense that the NSA cannot segregate access to this data, and somehow random civilian contractors who should never be able to see these documents are able to see, print, and steal them

This paragraph works perfectly if you eliminate the term contactor

NO underling employee should be able to do this so easily

Seriously? Please tell us you're not so stupid as to think we don't know what a contractor is.

The point isn't who owned the computer or if she was at a government facility. The point is that she was hired by a non-government third party. Surely you're intelligent enough to grasp the point. The government isn't who hired her. Got it?

Clearly, many in this thread do not know what being a government contractor means.

You responded to a post about her access and the processes for limiting that access.

The contracting company would have exactly ZERO to do with that.

Humor me. Describe this hiring process(hint, I know it)

I think you mean to say the government doesn't pay her salary. Cause, you can bet your arse she was interviewed by a government employee, has a government sponsor and...........as I already pointed out.......works in an environment COMPLETELY run by........yep...........you guessed it.......the government.

So, to go back to your earlier sentence
quote:

Please tell us you're not so stupid as to think we don't know what a contractor is

The answer apparently is that no, you don't.

These three premises seem to be in tension and I'm not sure how they can all simultaneously be true:

1. Contract labor is cheaper for the government than direct employment
2. Contractors receive better compensation than they do as direct employees
3. Contractor companies make enough profits to sustain managers, executives, shareholders, etc.

Federal employees and military receive benefits from the government. Contractors do not.

Government waste is an even bigger factor.

The word contractor is a misnomer. Winner herself is a type of Analyst, receiving and disseminating classified material up and down a chain.

I dont have problem with private entities contracted by the govt to do "busy work", it's just that someone so naive/ with the fairies, as to think theyre accomplishing some grand mission for the greater good is on the inside with access to classified material. But, in the end, the flags that went up when Winner distributed the info to the outside, did their jobs. She just never should have been in the position. Too many layers in the Onion.
