Ok. Anything else American we should play it before? Eating apple pie perhaps?
I've voted for getting head from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, but I was called sexist and masochist for it.

And another question, why is my sincere questioning of the practice and it’s origins or necessities seen as an attack on someone’s patriotism rather than the simple seeking of knowledge?
If it was a sincere question about origins, you'd have looked it up on Google or something. Quit trying to be a victim, it's ok to admit you had an agenda with your thread.

Because if this were true...

I am a proud American who believes this is the greates country on earth and would like to keep it that way,
You wouldn't be asking the question in the first place.

Because this is America..period. Why do we need a reason other than that?

This is a fair question. Why should the US national anthem be played before every sporting event? Why just assume that nobody in the audience might be offended? Why just assume that every US citizen holds allegiance to the USA?
This is where the Left has dragged us in only 60 years!

Why should the left destroy every single God damned tradition in the country just for the frick of it?
Because they can.
Who will stop them? Nobody.

It's been tradition for about 100 years in football.
The Olympics have also helped reinforce the marriage of sports and national anthems.
You certainly can do away with it, but expect the wrath of generations of families whose tradition you're fricking with.

It stated with the 1918 World Series.

quote:
After America's entrance into World War I, Major League Baseball games often featured patriotic rituals, such as players marching in formation during pregame military drills and bands playing patriotic songs. During the seventh-inning stretch of game one of the 1918 World Series, the band erupted into "The Star-Spangled Banner." The Cubs and Red Sox players faced the centerfield flag pole and stood at attention. The crowd, already on their feet, began to sing along and applauded at the end of the song.
After the war (and after the song was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution in 1931), the song continued to be played at baseball games, but only on special occasions like opening day, national holidays and World Series games.
During World War II, baseball games again became venues for large-scale displays of patriotism [...] the pregame singing of the national anthem had become cemented as a baseball ritual, after which it spread to other sports.

Because this is America is not a reasonable response—no matter what your patriotic leaning. Just a dumb answer.

Professional baseball started in 1846. The singing of the anthem didn't become ritual for another 100 years.
Yes -- I know it is shocking -- but baseball was played for 100 years without singing the anthem before every game.
Incredible.

Why not? I think anthems at games is redicilous. Has nothing to do with people hitting, passing, throwing, catching. Having everyone stand and salute before hand adds legitimacy to the event that it does not deserve in my opinion. It’s a game for goodness sakes. I think it speaks more about our culture that we revere sports this much.

The anthem has been played for decades and decades. Why are some people just now asking? You can't show respect and stand for 2 minutes? Geez. People will stand in line at a game for a half hour for a damn beer

Fundamentally changing America from within. The Communist Manifesto.

I mean, we don't play it before business conferences and client meetings. It does seem odd when you consider it.
Posted on 9/24/17 at 7:37 pm to jwall3
You don't have to sing it, stand or kneel. You can even just sit and do nothing. Kinda like hearing a prayer before a game where instead of listening to the prayer, you can fantasize about boning some hot chick. Nobody but you controls your thoughts and actions. Not worth the butthurt either way.

In the on base military theaters they always played the anthem before the movie. I always enjoyed that.

I always enjoyed it when the tv went off. Now the tv never goes off.

I think it honestly goes back to the " bread and circuses" philosophy of the elites.
