What you are experiencing is being "bitched out". You got called out by someone and now you feel like a pussy. It will eat at your soul for months, maybe years.

I had it happen to me once on a job site. The only thing that kept me from knocking the frick out of this guy was the fact that I would lose my job, and I couldn't afford that at the time. I'll never do that again. frick a job. My self respect is worth more than any job.

My advice to you is to frick this guy up.

You are spot on and most men have had to hold back when their natural instinct is to resort to violence....but you can't go back and do it after the fact....the fact that you didn't respond immediately will still haunt you....

This is a under 40 thing I think....most men over 40 grew up when we were on our own when it came to bullying and establishing a pecking order....now men reach adulthood without a clue what it is like to whup someones arse or get your arse whupped....and, being men, they need to know this....and it is best learned when you are 7 and both of you are unable to actually hurt one another because if you wait until you are 15 or so there is a lot of difference in physical ability by then and some kids are men in a kids body and can do some real damage....

This is a HUGE problem in the United States, in my opinion....men are expected to NEVER act as nature intended for us to act....even when were a nothing but boys....and it gnaws at a man for years until some finally break and do something stupid like shoot up a theater or get addicted to pain killers....

Only a dumbass would have interjected themselves into a situation and then act surprised when the other person wasn't immediately cowed down by being called and a-hole and a douche bag....

If you are going to be man enough to interject...an admirable decision.....then you must be man enough to understand that your interjections is probably not going to be readily accepted as the positive critique you offered.....to interject and then be shocked at the person's reaction is by any account a bitch arse move....

Who doesn't? I have had customers whose arse I should have kicked but I didn't because it would have cost too much money, Iva had bosses who were arse holes who needed an arse whipping....I can't imagine anyone not having a story or two about being disrespected and not being in a position to demand respect....but I don't recall ever interjecting myself into a situation and then being shocked when I as verbally assaulted...

I am offended by the a-hole but I ain't black...any decent person would be offended that it went that far....has nothing to do with race...

Yep, and like I said in a later post to the pussy CharlesLSU, who called me an immature idiot for fighting, the bullying problem we have today is a direct result of attitudes like his.

Bullies back in my day were challenged physically, and either stopped it or were expelled.

Bullies today have no consequences for their actions, so they continue bullying. The only way to stop a bully is to give them an arse whipping. I've seen it happen many times.

Essentially true, bh; but highly problematic. We are a lot alike; in all honesty, I realized long ago that I just can not afford to go off. Not that I can't take a good and deserved arse kicking (I have)...but that if I feel it was undeserved...then the sky becomes the limit for redress.

Lawyers, Criminal Law re Obama's (biased/quasi racist) DOJ, familial interest and responsibility, person injury and don't even mention Religion, if one professes Christianity. There are a lot of rational reasons to let a cursed individual fry in their own juices. Book it, there is weak link out there just waiting in that guy's future.

IMO, the OP did the right thing. The fact that it is bother him after the fact, means the man is thinking. That is what smart people do in life; and is the difference between a loser and a winner. Sometimes, many times, doing the right thing means paying a price. The OP is. He's got my respect.

After watching Frontline last night, I can see that - in Principle - we should all speak truth (as you do)and stand our ground...but avert violent means toward supposed 'resolution' if remotely possible. Let the liar/fool make the first move. That does not mean that I am not a believer in preemptive first strike strategy in some instances; IMO, we take Kim Jung Un or whatever his name is...OUT with assassination.

Man I'd love to have a three pounder on a top water right now.

This whole thing is just as it was in the early 80s, the last time I was at an age where it was ok for me to fight. With these loudmouth white or black folks that have a rep for being loud and intimidating you CAN NOT engage them on their turf. If you decide you have had enough and want to shut them up, give them ONE warning then punch them as hard as you can in their mouth. They will never show back up and it will be over. This is a lesson learned in 7th grade by me, and my pops words of advice were the same to me as mine to you....if you have truly had enough fight, if not shut up.

You see, in his world, you lost and he won because you disengaged. You only fed his ego and behavior will only worsen. And given that no person in his right mind would sit and argue with him for hours, he always wins and he only gets more bold.

Or you can stop playing pickup basketball games, I can only assume this behavior exists on every basketball court in America.

You dont even have to win, the loudmouth really doesnt want to fight he just wants to buffalo people. If you walk into a hornets nest and get stung, you kill the hornet....you get a little sting and the hornet gets killed...but you dont screw with hornets anymore. People dont always have to pay a serious price to learn a lesson.

Very true.

The last thing a bully wants is a physical confrontation. If a bully picks on someone and that person physically confronts them, even if the bully kicks their arse, they will usually no longer harass that person. It's too risky for them to harass someone who will fight back. They will move on to a victim who will not fight back.

Just like lions on the hunt, they will not chase after prey they think may harm them or put up too much of a fight when there are other weaker prey to chase.

Update:

**So, today, I saw the same guy from the original story playing pick up again for the first time since the incident. As I walked into the basketball gym I saw him on the court and thought, "Oh this should be good." I had already started thinking about what I'd do/say if he started up some shite, but what does that son of bitch do? Well, after the game he was playing in ended, he approaches me and apologizes, then we shake hands. No issues the rest of the night. **

Your encounter could have lead to something positive....you could have whupped his arse or got your arse whupped but one thing for certain is that you wouldn't be worried about it after the fact...whup an arse or get an arse whupped either way it is better than feeling like less than a man....
