Quit comparing this virus to the flu

Why live in the state of denial? The world has taken this outbreak seriously. Too seriously? That remains to be seen. But precautions are setting a new precedents. Panic is fixing to kick in big time and those who are playing this thing down will wake up in a nightmare. Not just our economy but the global economy will be at a point of total collapse. This new virus has just reached our shore and the effects are earth shattering. This new virus is going to run it's course and no one knows how long it will take.
I seriously believe that we are making a huge mistake trying to put off what is going to happen any way. Are you ready for schools to close and no church services on the Sabbath? Empty store shelves and collapse of our medical system? We got sick with measles, mumps, chicken pox, various strains of flu and viruses in our lifetimes. We should go about our daily business and treat this thing like what it is. Another virus. Even though this one is going to be very lethal to a large part of our population at least our children and grandchildren will be spared. To me that is a blessing. Those who are afraid don't believe in God.

There are a few reasons people keep bring up the flu
1. They way it spreads and prevention measures are almost identical between this and the flu so it's the closet analogy we have that people will understand
2. It's putting the current number of infections and deaths in perspective.
Nobody is saying "this is the flu" from a virologist perspective.

There is no one as blind as a man who cannot see.

This virus isn't even as bad as the flu, bro.

Try telling that to the millions who are fixing to die. I don't think it should be treated any different from the flu. That is my point. Panic will destroy the world as we know it. Let it run it's course and we will bury our dead. This thing is going to destroy the world economy and they will finally fulfill end time events. The antichrist is waiting around the corner. Bring on the plagues and the wars.

Wanna make a ban bet?
Over a virus killing millions? I'd rather not bet on the lives of others.
Tell ya what though, if the deaths even hit 1 million by Mid June, which is when I think the scare will officially end, I will never post on any TD or TD affiliated board. If it doesn't you have to stay around and have this thread bumped until the end of time in 7 or 8 years from climate change or whatever thing is gonna kill us all next year.

How so? An overwhelming majority have only a minor fever and minor symptoms.

Probably how it got here from China to begin with. Just seeped right through...

Making a bet over a tragedy is not a good idea. Besides, I nor anyone else can count on being here 7 or 8 years. I would be happy to be wrong. How many people over 80 will catch the virus in the nest 4 months, Italy lost over 150 yesterday and they only have about 15 thousand sick. Their death rate is close to 6 people per 100. China lied. The elderly and sickly will take the hit but a million is very conservative. In 4 months if you want, I will list the people that I know who has passed. Being 66, I know more older people than you. Many I know won't survive the virus. But we will see. Sorry about the ban bet thing. I was wrong to say it.

Swine flu, thousands of deaths no big deal. Coronavirus, 37 deaths and it’s the apocalypse. I wonder what’s the difference here? Hmm...

this is some interesting mental gymnastics you're pulling.

All good. Took me by surprise tbh and I had to check I was on the right board
I'm about to give 55-60% of my liver to my father. So Corona is the least of my worries. Killing millions isn't reasonable though. Unlike Flu it had a late release and outbreak. Like Flu warmer temps should kill it. If they don't well then the world needs to ban together and make them pay off the world debt.

Aren't you "Rickh" on blackandgold.com? If so, you told me about 7 years ago on there that you wanted to follow up on a conversation we were having, and you never returned. I have a long memory.
The comps to the flu are not hard to understand. The reasons have already been outlined in this thread. If you want to be hysterical about this virus, then you have to answer for the tens of thousands who have died of the flu, while you were going about your life, without a care in the world about it.
The virus is a virus. It does what viruses do, and yet not near to the degree of what the flu is currently doing. The reaction to this virus, however, is clearly political. Cause panic, hope the economy crashes, as a result, and then blame it on Trump, right as election season is coming up. Even though Trump was already taking preventative measures to keep possibly infected people from traveling here before anyone in the media started fake panicking, and the Democrats cried that it was xenophobic.
Your sanctimony is not very moving.

This isn't fricking smallpox or the plague. It's quite simple on how to survive this. If you're over 60, in bad health, or have a weakened immune system, get as little human contact as possible for the next month. Seriously, people like you talking about the global economic collapse and catastrophe ARE the problem.
