And why do Americans pay more individually than any other country?

Saw Bernie Sanders asking a panel of conservatives on C-Span this morning and they couldn't get on the same page with an answer. All they agreed on was that they couldn't explain it.

Regulatory capture by insurance companies and the AMA so that no alternative forms of care disbursement are possible. We have terrible collectivized policy that somehow manages to incorporate a profit margin, the only ostensibly 'good' thing about directly provided national services.

Our system is designed to fill pockets of insurance and drug companies before focusing on improving quality of life.

America does not engage in cost-benefit analysis when it comes to who to provide care to.

A huge part of it is the way we educate medical professionals. We force them (myself included) into a ton of debt which makes them prioritize the wrong things when giving care to patients and incentivizes them to see more people for more money. Many get burnt out after just a few years and stop giving a shite.

Our government-provided or regulated services are among the highest per capita compared to the rest of the developed world, but we pay much less for almost every kind of consumer good (and housing, but that is very regionally dependent).

Seems to be a big part of it. Also seems obvious that every solution, including obamacare and Bernie's socialized medicine, wouldn't solve that, since government can't help but fill pockets of their cronies. It may just be different pockets in their plans.

I'll reach across the isle on this... we have increased costs in medical because of the following: medical insurance skyrocketing prices, bloodsucking attorneys in our litigious society, we have to test for everything to make sure we do not get sued, lack of competition across state lines for insurance companies, and finally med companies instead of making modest profits are making a killing as well as insurance companies... stockholders demand profit... boil it all down into one word "GREED" ...

A combination of crony-capitalism that has disproportionately benefited big pharma and a higher demand for healthcare than anywhere else in the world.

We have a huge number of fat, wealthy citizens that are willing to invest their resources in mitigating the damage of their unhealthy decisions
