I'm sure that would go over well today

West Monroe plays Dixie after every touchdown.

As far as Jim Crow being taught, it 100% was taught in 8th grade Louisiana history. Theaters/balconies, separate water fountains, back of the bus, dogs/water hoses, and black people only being allowed to shop at certain times in smaller LA towns.

About which years was it taught? Which years were you in school, if I might ask?

That would've been 93-94 as far as my 8th grade year.

I'm closer to your cutoff of 35, but I would say that Black history dominated my social studies curriculum.

For example not having ever read anything else, I would say.

Crispus Attacus is the only martyr of the Boston Massacre.

Booker T Washington is the greatest American inventor after Thomas Edison

P.B.S. Pinchback is the only 19th century Louisiana governor that would come to mind.

Plessy vs Ferguson and Topeka vs Board of Education are the only Supreme Court decisions ever taught. Maybe Dred Scott was mentioned.

Mississippi Burning and Glory were some of the few movies shown in history class

And we eat King Cake in New Orleans to celebrate Martin Luther King Day.

BTW was not an inventor. You are confusing him with George Washington Carver.

Stand corrected. Your state or parish must of had a better program then mine.

Was not taught anything about GW Carver in school. I read his biography when I was 10 years old. I loved going to the library and reading biographies back in the day.

BTW, Carver was gay.

How is seperate but equal (asumming it is actually completely equal) wrong or full of injustice?

It isn't. We humans congregate with others similar to us.

Everyone is different and people are not equal, despite what some might try to say and preach.

Sounds like your family is full of white guilt.
