I'd be in favor of it being 10 years
Make people put their names on the continuance of the law if it's going to remain

The way it is now, we are governed by system set in place by people who have been dead 100 years because Congress doesn't have the political will to debate whether that system is still viable.

Sunset provisions would force that examination stoke contemporary public involvement.
Correct and I'd like to see it at the state level as well

Another one that Sunset would benefit is Social Security.
It is plainly broken but since is has become the "3rd rail" of politics Congress would rather allow it to continue sailing straight for the iceberg than deal with it.
Sunset would force them to make corrections, or let a broken system die.

Trying WAY too hard
Probably a poorly phrased OP I'll admit that
I'm just trying to gauge what is more important to people. Their own personal ethics or the law.
I'll never get the idea that people must be punished for something just because it's the law. Like I said there are plenty of laws that we selectively don't enforce.
The abortion thing was more of an example of something that is legal that a lot of people disagree with
Could have taken more time to better phrase the OP but it is what it is

God said be fruitful and multiply. He didn't mention anything about smoke weed and get stoned. Just saying.

Just like our antique 1916 Tax Code. Just suppose it expired every 30 years unless Congress voted to continue it.

+1
That, or at least some variation (given how specific your point was) would work just fine for me.

it's the law
If you don't like a law work on getting it changed.
That is how we keep a civil society.
quote:Piss poor argument. I don't have to like it but it's the law. I have to except it.
If you have that logic then why would you be upset about someone doing something that you don't like that's actually legal.
I can work toward having it changed though.
That's how we keep a civil society.

Seatbelt laws are dumb and a violation of personal freedom. Same thing with motorcycle helmet laws.
But.... it is what it is. I just don’t agree with any law against a personal choice that affects no one else.
