What a colossal blunder by his own attorneys. You never want your client on the stand in a criminal prosecution....never unless you are going for a Hail Mary. This borders on malpractice.

I agree overall, but why give the state the opportunity? You can always rebut the state's witnesses but if you call your own client to the stand you don't get that chance if you have to redirect, you lose

I agree 100%. A good prosecutor (and this one apparently isn't) can make up more ground with the defendant on the stand than anywhere else. But maybe the defense attorneys pegged this prosecutor as being incapable of convicting anyone.
