Too many wouldn't do it. They want dependents. More kids=more benefits.

We chose public schools for our children. We are fortunate enough to live in an "excellent" school district.

The problem is, that even in our district, with wealthy, involved parents and infinite resources, this crap creeps in.

Our local middle school just went through this:

A girl overhears a boy saying that he is going to "shoot up the school." Police come in, remove the boy from the school and investigate. No problems here.

After a couple of days, the administration and law enforcement determine that there was nothing said. They interviewed 50 students that were present when this kid said it and only the one girl says she hears it. By this time it has spread through the community and parents are freaking out when the kid is allowed to return to school.

Then the media gets involved and airs a one sided story that says the school is allowing the kid in school despite the threat. They interview concerned parents and now everyone that didn't know what is going on knows.

Turns out the girl made it up because she was mad at the boy over something. There can be no consequences for the girl because she was "victimized."

If you ever had any doubt as to whether or not our country is fricked, just come spend the day at a public high school here in south Louisiana.

Kids failing multiple subjects, others with 30/40/50 write ups. No consequences because of liberal policies - there are no “bad” or “stupid” kids - they can all be saved.

What a crock of shite.

Don’t forget, their vote counts the same as ours - and they’re outbreeding us.

Oh, I also have a ton of illegals that don’t give two flips about our country, but that’s a rant for another day...

This isn't new. The kids who want to learn with parents who support them will still do well in life.

Identity politics has ruined it. Now it's all about achievement gaps and closing them. Except the admin only cares about looking good with the black white gap and nothing else. It is ludicrous.

Because morality trumps pragmatism for most of us.

Now if you have no moral issue with abortion then I can see why you don't understand; your position makes perfect sense. But some people do.

HS should be for kids who want to go to college. By 9th grade you can identify kids who are not college material and/or don't have any desire to go.
Those kids can learn a trade that pays more than teaching school.

Honestly, private schools aren’t that much better. They always let in some well-connected dummies and the curriculum steers towards average to keep them from failing. Moreover, most don’t offer a very robust language or arts program, and still make time from climate change/tranny nonsense.

We homeschool with tutors and take care of the socialization aspect with LOADS of activities/camps. Since we don’t know too many parents our age out here, it’s just our kids during the academic tutoring, but I’ve often wondered why groups of parents in places with deep social connections and common values (like Louisiana) don’t employ a home-school commune type model. If you have 3 groups of parents, splitting the cost of tutors in essential subjects and supplementing with parents volunteering to teach their particular skill set is quite affordable (more so than private school) and gives the kids a huge advantage over peers attending traditional institutions.

We have a vocational school here that does very well producing welders, practical nurses and auto mechanics. I don't know that we can't teach them useful skills in HS beyond 9th grade, but certainly beyond HS it's a better option for a lot of people. And those last three years in HS would be better spent teaching them basic shop skills, home-ec, basic accounting, etc.

Homeschool kids tend to be very academically prepared. However I personally think that the types of parents that care enough to homeschool their kids are the types of parents that would have academically prepared kids no matter where they went.

My experience is limited to a handful of families, but I see a mixed bag in home schoolers, much like public or private schools. Some are great, some have no business educating kids.

That’s a good point. I will say, traffic is so bad where we live, we’d have to limit the languages/skills we give our kids if they were enrolled in traditional school.
I also hate vacationing during school holidays. Our children are still quite young, and we don’t give them screens. We teach them to sit through a meal, in their chair, and use proper manners. We don’t let them scream for the hell of it (we usually tell them the kids that do are special needs). Showing up at a resort where Braxton and Madison are either screaming their heads off or buried in some inane game/tv show on the iPad holds little appeal for us.

Good news. You are just one progressive policy away from getting more students and a changing curriculum. Problem solved - BESE

In Louisiana, if you kick out too many kids, it affects your school grade, which can affect bonuses and funding for principals and school districts.

That is absolutely insane.

We send our kids to public schools. My middle schooler is in the honors track, and my elementary child is in the "high class" (they don't have honors in elementary, but they do put the high performing kids all in one class). My wife teaches mostly honors and one on-level class.

If your child is in the honors / high class program, they get a great education and little to no discipline disruptions.

If your child is in the regular track, it's getting a lot worse.
