House progressives may delay Congress in passing Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus package—which includes the highly-anticipated $1,400 relief checks—to keep the $15 minimum wage hike in the sprawling bill.

Progressive lawmakers on Friday warned Democratic leadership that they could withhold their vote for the legislation if the Senate removes the wage increase. Their opposition could send the package back to be renegotiated, which would further stall the passing of the bill.

Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, indicated to reporters that Democrats could lose support from progressives if they fail in finding a way to include the wage hike.

On Friday, Ocasio-Cortez also warned the Biden administration that the minimum wage debate "sets the stage for how effective we'll be for the rest of the term."

I’d be pretty mad if I were a dem.

They’re fricking up a wet dream by doing this.

Stimmies are pretty popular. $15 min wage is pretty unpopular.

Holding up something popular for something unpopular when you have one of the slimmest majorities imaginable is quite stupid.

"We will hold up aid to working people unless you pass a minimum wage provision that will lay off millions of working people!"

It went from 2000 to 1400 pretty quickly.

Expect it to be in the area of 400 within a week or two.

Good. This reflects really well on their promises and MAY actually wake up a few libs.

Best thing... they can’t blame a majority Republican anything. Dems own it lock, stock, and barrell.

If liberal voters actually cared about what their elected officials actually delivered, they wouldn't be liberal voters.

The scorn Bill Cassidy is facing for example would never happen to a liberal elected official.

Good. I hope they hold it up until the 2022 elections.

He doesn't care about his constituents at all. He just recently won a re election and is anticipating voters will forget about his dismissal of them in 5-6 years.

Btw, every interview I've seen this clown involved in, is nothing but grandstanding.

Reactionaries delayed the $1,400 to prevent minimum wage hike.

Democrats delayed $1400 by including something that, at best, has nothing to do with covid relief and very likely actually harms it.

There is no reason the put min wage in this bill other than to attempt to get something unpopular passed.

Pelosi is not Biden and she is not Schumer....she wields real power in Washington and ultimate power in the House. If she wants AOC and her cronies to get in line....they will fall in line.

Pelosi is probably the most powerful person in Washington right now...and yes that includes Slow Joe and Heels Up.

So progressives are OK with a bill that has 91% allocation to non-Wuhan-related causes, but they’re NOT OK with letting private business owners decide how much to pay their employees.

There is no reason for any of this bill.
