What’s the functional difference between the department of defense vs war department? What function does it play right now? The answer is defense of the US and its interests. Renaming the department is dumb, and I say this as a 3 time Trump voter

Venezuela/Maduro?
Many TdA have been detained but not deported over the last 3 mos... meaning they have been interrogated at length.

Perhaps put a bit more stigma on the war profiteering industry that has hidden under the word "defense" in omnibus bills and budgets for decades, but I take your point.
Omnibus bills and budgets are a separate problem that this admin should tackle
Defense spending should be bracketed in one of two categories: “defense of the US” or “defense of US interests”. Add much higher levels of scrutiny and budgetary restrictions to the “US interests” category. Boom

I don't disagree, but what does spending millions on renaming and rebranding do from a practical standpoint?
Hegseth has been pretty open about returning the warrior ethos back to the military. I imagine the name change has something to do with that.

I have to admit, seeing “War Department” looks a lot cooler on my grandfather’s WWII paperwork than “Department of Defense” looks on my old man’s Vietnam paperwork.

I thought it had been announced a long time ago that it was going to Huntsville. Maybe that was just a rumor.

The initial study done said HSV was the best location but Biden took it away during his administration.
We pretty much knew once Trump was reelected he would finalize the move to HSV...which for many reason makes sense with what HSV already has in place.

Can they bring more roads and infrastructure with them?

Hell, the administration just hung its hat on a classic monstrosity of an omnibus bill.
