I think treating them like terrorist organizations is the right way to go.

I hope it all gets done in close collaboration with the Mexican federal government and Military, and even would like to Canada contribute as well since the problem in a North American one.

I give Trump credit for being the first president to say it out loud. I think the last two presidents didn’t place enough priority on eliminating the cartels.

I wish I trusted Trump to manage the process in a competent way.

I don’t believe we on this board have a clear understanding of what that official declaration would entail. If it’s equivalent to your typical ME terrorists country not only would Mexico be fricked but any one doing business in Mexico would be fricked.

At this point Trump is just using it as a cudgel to get Mexico’s cartels in line even with our help.

Taking out all of the cartels would help establish enough security to encourage investment. And Mexico with a functioning economy does not produce an immigration problem.

We’d all prefer if the next generation of Apple products were produced in the United States, but we don’t want to pay double the current price and apple stockholders do t want to give up significant profit.

I’d rather it be here, but Mexico is far better than China.

Legalizing “drugs” is about realizing that our civil liberties are being quashed. And also about realizing that it ought to be a medical issue, not a criminal one.

Sure they will. No one denies that. Would you rather the cartels be major players in the $10 billion global avocado industry or the $300+ billion global illegal drug industry?

I know which one I would choose. Monthly protection payments are nothing compared to the profits off of drugs. I have doubts that the cartels will be able to expand into other industries within the US to the extent of the post-prohibition mafia simply because they are based in foreign countries.

Do you really think that cutting off tens of billions of dollars going to the cartels will not significantly impact them? If all the law enforcement officers stopped focusing on drugs and instead focused on real crimes like gun, human, and sex trafficking, how much further would the cartels' businesses be reduced?

Only foolish people think that legalizing drugs won't severely impact the cartels. We've learned nothing from prohibition, apparently.
