One of my first memories of coming to grips with how the media influences American opinion, not through information as much as their own personal vendettas and spin, and how this was also supported by the entertainment industry was during the Nixon administration and afterwards when you were absolutely bombarded with it, even well after he had left office. Even as a kid I could not escape the consistent drumming of Watergate everywhere I turned, and I’m sure most of you who were cognizant of those days remember that as well.

And look, although I still think Nixon did a good job in establishing relations with China at the time, and was a truly smart man and politician, and got America out of Vietnam from a point of strength, I am equally turned off to his getting rid of the gold standard and strong arm tactics he used, but so did others I suppose. However, regardless of the complexities of Richard Nixon, he had the media and Democrats in general figured out pretty well. He definitely had their number, and they knew it too.

Agree with your general sentiment here = Nixon was really one of our greatest presidents - notwithstanding the gold reserve decision. (and I don't understand enough about financial qualities at that level - but I know I didn't like it.)

As for the media bias = yes - that was my first observation of purposeful distortion of the 'news.' I went to Pomona CA as soon as I graduated LSU in 1960. Stayed there one year before I transferred to St.Louis MO.

I was on the side of Nixon in the '60 election and thought he deserved to win and was aware of the charges wrt 'cheating in Illinois and Texas' - but accepted his generous statement that = "it would cause a constitutional crisis to contest it"

So he went to California and ran for Gov. In St. Louis I noticed a front page Post Dispatch article about his race in CA. - it depicted Nixon at some informal street gathering where he was talking with a group regular people.

The photo was an odd composition - someone had to climb up onto something to get the elevation required - it depicted Nixon from the waist up in the midst of a half dozen people in close attention -

just over his head was a street sign

the sign said "DEAD END"

I saw that and thought - "wtf!!! - they did that on PURPOSE!!!!!"

That was my first revelation of news bias - my mother had taught me from infancy = "if they say it in the papers it has to be true."

and I believed it

- til I didn't anymore.

Nixon empowered China. In hindsight, not the best move.

No, Clinton is who empowered China. I think back about Nixon sometimes. The shite he was accused of was absolute child’s play compared to what is going on now.

Evidence of how well the media influence had on America.

NO condemnation on LBJ for getting America into that mess, micromanaging the war from Washington, allowing the enemy to have save harbor in Cambodia and North Vietnam, spilling gallons and gallons of American blood to take territory only to relinquish it back, and then retake it again and again spilling more blood in the process.

NAH, let’s put that on Nixon for Linebacker 2, bombing the North back to the negotiating table to get us out of that quagmire that LBJ got us into in the first place, and JFK started with advisors, albeit to a much lesser extent.

YEP…. It worked very well.

Nixon was the second president taken out by the deep state (read Geoff Shepard). The first was Kennedy. And we know what they did, and continue to do, to Trump.

You mistook Kennedy and Johnson for Nixon. They started that war. Nixon ended it.
Similar to Eisenhower ending the Korean War. The Democrats seem to always send our young soldiers off to battle in foreign lands.
The Communist media, Eastern Elite hated Nixon because he helped put Alger Hiss, Soviet Spy, in prison.
They never forgave him.

Taking down the Republican Nixon emboldened the media and they have been after every GOP president since 1974.

Hence why Woodward and Bernstein are fricking rock stars to the media.

Woodward has done work since then, albeit based on access due to this.

Bernstein is a fricking clown who has been trading on this for decades.

Nixon did a good job he fricked up when his looney arse recorded everything which was the standard for presidents but at that time it was a 3 course plater for news media.

/\ this /\

this never sank in to my consciousness until after how they treated Reagan = the media and the Democrats lost any respect I ever had for them from that point on = and my hatred has deepened every year since.

I have graduated from - they are slanted in their coverage

to - they are absolute evil.

don't know how much worse it could possibly get.

What these low life politicians and intel did to Trump makes Watergate look like child's play. The media helped cover for them and buried the real deal.

I Man, G Gordan Liddy, told the world, after he was released from prison. The Head of the Communist Party, USA, cared for his family while he was in prison. With condition, he would keep his mouth shut about Watergate.

true dat -

To them, Watergate was like football discovering the forward pass.

Clumsy at first, but finely honed precision now = and getting more effective.

Without a sophisticated defense, you have no chance to even stay on the field with them
