The MSM portrayed Reagan as a trigger happy cowboy who would start a nuclear war.

The MSM didn't exist like it does today. Very difficult to compare. You couldn't spin stories in real time or as fast back then. It did work both ways though.

It was awful.

Progs are creating more Trump followers, just like they galvanized support around Reagan

They treated harshly early on. Easier after he was shot and became so popular.

Nothing like as easy as they treated democrats. (They were pretty hard on Carter BUT the most liberal establishment parts of the democrat party hated Carter too--led by Ted Kennedy)

Trigger-happy cowboy is correct. He was painted as all that and a war-monger.

He was also ridiculed for being too old to hold the office and unfit for that reason.

It was constant. The themes I remember were "Reagan's so old he'll be taking a nap when the Russians attack" (pure ageism from the "enlightened") and that Nancy Reagan was really the one in charge as the ball-buster behind the scenes, a la Hillary Clinton during Billy Bob's balling fest in the White House.

Unfairly.
Somewhat better after he got shot early in his first term..

However, there was more straight reporting and far less creating of the news.
CNN was fledgling as Reagan took office. Obviously MSNBC/FNC and other 24-7 news outlets were years away from existence.

But it was nowhere near like this.

It was bad and back then we didn't have Fox News or talk radio to help set the record straight. It's amazing that not only he got elected but the enormous margin with which he won both times.

Senile -- even though he was only one year older taking office than DT was

bullshite and you know it.

To the media Reagan was stupid, out of touch with reality, trigger happy and downright dangerous. That was the basic premise they started his Presidency and they stuck with it. Anybody who supported him were knuckle dragging, slobbering Neanderthal racist homophobes. To answer your question, nothing much has changed.

Reagan was portrayed as dumb.
H. W. was portrayed as dumb.
Dub was portrayed as dumb.
Trump is already being referred to as dumb.

It's the same formula for ever Republican; liberal media doesn't agree with them so portrays them as dumb.
