Leo needs to reread the Gospels. After Jesus forgave the thief being crucified next to Him, He didn't order the guards to take him down and set him free. He allowed for the sentence of the State to be carried out.

Luke's Gospel. You know...the Word of God.

Google explains it quite well:
No, this is not a biblical quote.
While the text describes a situation found in the Bible, the specific phrasing—especially the commentary about not ordering the guards to set him free and allowing the "sentence of the State to be carried out"—is modern commentary rather than scriptural text.

The Pope may be "pro-life" (evidence to the contrary gas been set forth in this and related threads); however, the Catholic Church is not.

Has he weight in on priests raping children?

Why is it news that the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, would make a statement in opposition to the death penalty?
The Catholic Church opposes the death penalty. This isn't new.
The Church opposed the Nuremberg sentences which was unpopular to the extreme.

We don't live according to the law, but according to grace.
Yes, the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church has put many people to death, and both were wrong to do it every single time.

So, the only way to be "right" is to reject the Word of God?
Something something false prophets...

So the answer to my question is "yes."
Thanks. That's all you needed to say.
Leo declaring the death penalty is against Catholic doctrine is placing the will of man supreme to the Word of God.

What on earth are you talking about? The death penalty is absolutely supported by the Bible. There is no Biblical argument to the contrary.

Lololololololol
First, lifelong Roman Catholic.
Second, not just my "interpretation" of Luke's Gospel. Multiple other Scriptural and historical examples have been provided in this and related threads.
Again, you have placed the will of a single man over that of the Word of God.

Because retarded MAGA Protestants have decided the Pope stands in opposition to Trump.
It’s not really about the Pope, though. It’s about their desire to diminish and harm the Catholic faith.
It’s not working as 59% of all Catholic converts in recent years are former Protestants

It will definitely get higher. I trust some of these Protestants about as much as I trust the Muslims and that sentiment is growing.
