This is happening and has been happening for a long time.
City, State saves money, and a police presence is in the school at all times!
Police substations open in two St. Louis schools 2011
Dallas News reports that Keller police are collaborating with the town of Westlake to place the substation on the Westlake Academy campus.

I see this as a major plus.

- better relationship built. Police is not enemy...
- save dollars.
- protects school...
What's the issue with it?

Dumb.

shite. My local walmart had a police substation a few years ago. Walmart with cheap, china made products, had more protection than most public schools.
It's a good idea, hopefully more schools do it.

Why not, seems like a decent idea.

Can a pedophile ever be "brought to the station for questioning"?

Except for police cars driving like bats out of hell in a 5 mph zone, this makes a lot of sense.

It creates two systems.
One where private school kids get disciplined by teachers and have the slate wiped clean when they graduate.
The other system has police acting as disciplinarians which ultimately leads to more kids having permanent criminal records due to in school behavior for the same acts as their private school counterparts.
Consider this, two catholic students get in a fight at an all boys high school. Do they face the same charges as their public school counterparts when the disciplinarian show up vs the in school police?

I thought the proposal was only that the police station was housed on the same campus. Not that the police worked FOR the school.

Once the police are there, is there any doubt how they will be called on?
"Excuse me officer, we have two students in a fist fight, can you break it up?"

But, I don't ASSUME a thing and argue that. The OP involves "housing" the police station there. I answered accordingly.

It would.
- Police stations cost money. They rent or buy. Schools have spare rooms. Money saved.
- security personal will cost 50k each per year. Just give a bonus to those police. Money saved.

School Resource Officers The School Resource Officer (SRO) program was established on the Big Island in 2003. It is a collaborative effort by law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents and the community to offer law-related educational programs in the schools in an effort to reduce crime, drug abuse, violence and provide a safe school environment. The SROs deal with crime on campus, teach informative classes to students, provide law related counseling and are liaisons between the school and the Police Department. Most important, they are positive role models.

In my experience, thats how that starts. Originally SRO's for NYC schools were like that until they morphed into the schools disciplinarians. I just don't think police acting as disciplinarians benefits anyone except the lawyers, bail bondsmen, and prison caterers.
