The cops already knew they were at the wrong place. Even if dude comes to the door with a gun, he is reasonable to do so. The cops put everyone there in a life or death situation and since that was entirely their fault they should have deescalated immediately instead of shooting immediately.
"POLICE! WE CAME TO THE WRONG HOUSE, DROP THE GUN, DROP THE GUN"
Even if the cops are more at risk then they'd like to be, that's their fault for fricking up and as a result, their responsibility to take more risk.
Not just fricking open fire on the guy they know they just startled and who has nothing to do with the situation.

himself and kills a cop?

What about qualified immunity?
Got voided when they clearly went to the wrong house.
Can't roll up to a home, with all of the lights out, that late at night and not know you are at the right place.
Any benefit of the doubt LEO gets is built on them doing their job correctly. Once they don't, then their guilt is held at a higher level. Double edged sword.

They may have gone to the wrong address, but the homeowner came out with a firearm pointed at them while they thought they were going to a domestic dispute call.
So let's say it turns into a gun battle and several cops are killed, the homeowner is killed, and maybe even somebody inside the another house altogether, who has no idea what's going on, is also killed by a stray bullet. You're telling me this is an acceptable potential outcome?
Ok, it didn't work out like that. But this situation should never have happened. It shouldn't have even been possible. And it is not the homeowner's fault that it did happen. It's the job of the police to ensure order, not kill people in chaos that they themselves have generated.

1) Homeowner's family sues the hell out of the dept.
2) The family of any cops who didn't initiate the encounter that were killed, sue the hell out of the dept.
3) The family of anyone killed by a stray round from either side, sues the ever-loving HELL out of the Dept!
5) Finally, any surviving cop who initiated the encounter will be tried for manslaughter...involuntary probably.

Why are police more protected than citizens?

This is a giant pile of shite.
The police killed a guy because they went to the wrong address. “They were on their way to a domestic.” Yeah. At another address.
This is involuntary manslaughter and a wrongful death suit that should come out of the pension fund for this department. But it won’t.

Murder, and this is the sort of thing which sets off rampant rioting and calls in earnest for defunding
That will depend on the skin color of the victim and the skin color of the cops.

So let me understand. They are not sure what address they are at, BUT they are damn sure the guy opening the door was worth shooting instantly multiple times w/o any warnings?
Straight up murder in my book. Those dudes need to see inside bars and NEVER be in any LEO capacity ever again. Not even mall cops.

If you’ve never done a ride along with your local Law Enforcement, I encourage everyone to do it. There’s nothing like walking up to a car or home with unknown circumstances to help gain a better understanding of how some of these instances, although horrible, can sometimes happen.
The fools who are belittling the LEOs on boards like this one, don't have a clue about what it's like to be a patrol officer, especially at night!
