Elon did say he could see the bots trying to manipulate the poll

Better twist:
The thousands of people that aren't able to follow his account right now exposes code deep in the software that censors people.

Why is so hard to find and shut down bots?
It seems like a random, simple verification test would expose them and require a new verification before the account can do anything other than read on the site. My thought is a simple code that pops up randomly requiring the user to retype it within a set time would clean out bots

Because what they do is jump around and route through who knows how many different random servers. The proprietors of the vast majority of those servers don’t even have a clue they’re being used for that. And they have special code to do what’s called “server flow through” which means they are only “in” the server database’s RAM for a brief moment, and never leave a footprint in their mail database server memory. Thus in order to trace them you have to lock in on them while in the active process of “passing through” the server. Which lasts all of about a millisecond. It’s just not possible.
Naw I made all of that up and have no real clue. But it sounds close though maybe. Same ballpark at least, surely.
**Just providing a little reading material while we await some real info on the subject. That’s all.

I know the difficulties of tracking them so going through that process is useless IMO. I am asking why not stop them when they are active participating as a user on the site? As far as I know bots do not react to a specific input requirement so a random pop up that requires human action should expose them.

Seemed obvious from the beginning. Trump, like everyone else in the damn world, should be allowed a Twitter account if he wants one.

I was just messing around and don’t have any real knowledge on the subject. But it sounds like you have some. There’s got to be some hitch that just can’t be gotten around because one would think they’d have been eager to address the issue. But then again, they possibly have some sort of incentive or justification to leave it be. Some nefarious reason. It’s hard to write off that possibility these days.

The man knew Trump would get the votes, adding Trump back adds traffic to his site, and doing it this way if Trump declines to come back to Twitter he’ll be letting those that voted for him down.
