Makes no sense for Dims to go this far without seeing the evidence. I know they are desperate but it could really blow up in their faces. If it is determined Trump committed no impeachable offense from actual evidence what do they do? How do they recover? Are they really that dumb? I think it kills them politically, people are sick of it.

If you parse the words here, an "official inquiry" is basically the same thing we have had thus far with a different name. Impeachment hearings have not been voted on by the House yet. If (and probably when) the vote does happen, Dems in red States will have to be officially on the record. It could backfire in a big way. They'll drag it out further I bet, with a vote taking place in say October of 2020.
