I’d say it depends on location.
Amusingly for purposes of the comparison the more ubiquitous they are in a given state/jurisdiction the more protection they receive, and conversely the more endangered the less protection.
Edit: No worries Texashorn, and I didn’t doubt you as to the mens rea required for other criminal statues in the general area. I just recall it as the prime example when taught strict liability in crim law.

My question was mostly rhetorical, but sure maybe Joel Greenberg is an agent of Israel working to collect kosher kompromat on American politicians.
Alternatively, Greenberg might just be an ordinary sleezeball from Florida with an extremely rich father and political ambition and is now facing very real crimes. Hard to believe Gaetz would be dumb enough with his high profile to trust some hookers to be discrete. I just can’t see him giving someone that type of leverage over him.
