You know it must be bad when CNN reports this way.

I seriously hope Iran loses control of the strait. But they won’t because they can launch cheap drones and missiles by the hundreds unless we put the navy in there to stop them.

Larak, Greater and Lesser Tunb and maybe Siri islands. Qeshm if need be but that would be a tough nut to crack. Heavy and consistent naval presence inside the straight and in between the Iranian coastline and the shipping lanes. Obviously persistent air overhead. Anti air defenses would have to be brought in quickly to the islands.

Well depending on the island it may take less than thousands. If we took Qeshm, it would take at least thousands.
These troops would deny the enemy the key terrain from which the launch drones and mines in the strait and also allow us to put air defenses on them to intercept enemy missiles and drones before they reach the shipping channels. The dark sided benefit is that the troops will be bigger targets for the Iranians than the oil tankers are. Iran will waste more missiles and drones shooting at the American troops. This will expose their positions and deplete their stocks even more.
It’s the quickest path to victory.
