Good Googly Moogly

Do you think think big investments like this are only happening because of Trump?

I'd venture to say an investment like this probably has some feed engineering going back to 2015 or earlier.

Trump’s tax cuts have really lit up CapEx.

Big investments into production and technology are encouraged by our new tax code. It’s a good time to be in industrial construction, IT, and consulting.

there are two idled aluminum plants in Texas, one in Gregory and the other near Point Comfort. I wonder if those will be starting up soon.

I'm not sure if you know anything about the Gregory plant but they're essentially closed down due to union negotiations. I used to drive by there every day for over a year and the stupid union fricks would be on strike...literally for over a year picketing.

And it should be noted that they were planning to close the plant well before Trump was elected. In fact at the time that they decided to close this plant is was all but a foregone conclusion that Hillary would be the next president.

As far as it reopening? I know Cheniere Energy has expressed interest in purchasing the facility.

If you thought this was going to somehow be some poor reflection of Trump's economic policies you would be severely wrong.

No disagreement here

This is good news for someone like me. Hell I might wind up working at that aluminum plant

Prepare yourself.

UAW will go on strike next year if GM and Ford don’t bring some of the Chinese Buick Envision and Ford Focus production back to the US.

Why would anyone be surprised a company that is the benefactor of government protectionism is building a plant?

They are charging their US customers 25% more than before. They should be cash flush.

Should all the tariffs be implemented that are proposed the net new jobs in the US will be negative.

So this is definitely 1) related to Trump’s trade policy and 2) beneficial to American workers.

According to IB Melting.

Absolutely not. Just honest curiosity, I’m a Trump supporter.

The plant operated over a year with temporary employees, so it didn’t close due strictly to the union.
Cheap Chinese aluminum is the main reason. With Trump being tough on trade I’m wondering if these plant will start back up.
