No, it actually started when Presidents began to regularly lie in the State of the Union address. And I don't mean a stretch of the truth, but repeated outright lies. And don't tell me that Joe Biden was too senile to even understand that he was lying since he did not write that speech. He just recited what he was told to say. The country needs a president who is looking out for the country first, and not just his party, and comports himself with the dignity related to his office. For what it is worth, I think Donald Trump did a good job but his mouth lost him just enough votes to turn the tide against him.

The first amendment right of freedom of speech was proposed at a time when there was no mass media. The idea of a person saying what he or she wanted was naturally limited to the range of persons within earshot. This also meant that opposing views could be immediately voiced and heard. We are simply slowly moving away from a period of control of speech by the media and returning to the idea that opposing ideas can sometimes be immediately voiced. So an immediate response is actually a return to the old freedom of speech.
