PHILADELPHIA (KYW/CNN) – A misunderstanding ended in tragedy with one man dead and a police officer shot in the face when police were mistaken as intruders while trying to serve a search warrant. Officer Jaison Potts, 49, and other officers with the Philadelphia Police Department were trying to serve a 20-year-old man with a search warrant for gun violations Monday morning.
It’s about time the police quit trying to play Delta Force

I completely agree that the militarization of the police force is very concerning. You can look directly at the War on Drugs as why it happened. I don’t know how to reverse it but it definitely worries me

I call bullshite. How do you mistaken uniformed police officers as bandits, you shot him in the face its not like you didnt get a good look at him.
If someone shoots you in the face, exactly how are you supposed to respond????

Not much info in that article and your first thought is to post something to make the police look bad.

The thing I did notice in the article "officers standing by returned fire". Okay that means you had at least three policemen serving a search warrant on Jr for gun violations.
Police are pretty busy in Philly, to have at least three serve a warrant tells me Jrs abode was not a friendly domicile to begin with.

Cops probably had those ski mask looking things on and decked out in their black tactical gear to look really bad arse.

Yea because intruders always bang on the door and yell. "Police. We have a warrant!"
Darwinism at its finest.
Strike 1 - You have a shite bag living in your home (or hanging out enough that the local LE knows to issue the warrant fro your house) lol. You are the company you keep.
Strike 2 - When LEO's come to collect the garbage, you say "frick da Po-lease!" and start blasting caps.
I do love a happy ending....

With today’s technology, I don’t see how this continues to happen. Hell send in a remote drone. Knocks on the door, verifies ID without any cop being in danger to need to pull the trigger. Stop forcing residents into deadly positions.

How in the world did you get this from reading the article, and since when is serving a search warrant "militarization of the police force?"

Precisely. These threads bring out the cop-hating Libertarians.
The entirety of the article is "cops serve search warrant, homeowner opens fire, cops return fire, homeowner dead," so some immediately chime in out militarization of the police force and make statements that make the police look like the bad guys.

Well if they kicked his door in it’s a fear for his life deal.
The cops all of them should be fired and whatever retard approved a warrant like that without any verifying of information should be charged with murder.

I didn’t quote the article because from what was in the OP it did appear that the man shot first and that’s on him.
I was more addressing the militarization in general. Not this case specifically

There are endless ways this can happen.
frick man, we have retards here DEFENDING police that shot a dude who called them for help from OUTSIDE HIS HOUSE.
That aside, who knows how or if they announced ("gun violation", so maybe not), if the guy was woken from sleep or what kind of neighborhood he lives in. Bottom line is they raided the wrong house and killed the wrong dude.
Eta
And shot his wife...
and apparently it was the right house, but a dry hole.

I'm as critical as they get, but this was a situation where they say they knocked and announced their presence. If it was a no knock or something, it would be a much bigger deal. As it stands, it sounds like an awful misunderstanding.

Which I'm sure they took great pains to confirm.

Words have meaning and these writers seem to like obstructing the readers view with their chosen words.
