noun

One who loves, supports, and defends one's country.

A person who loves his country, and zealously supports and defends it and its interests.

One who loves his country, and zealously supports its authority and interests.

Maybe it's just semantics but I find it strange that those at odds with the current government would chose this term. Personally, I only have allegiance to God and support freedom and liberty for all. Once the US turned against me and against freedom, I became unsupportive of the country and actually find it questionable to fly the flag. I don't recognize this country anymore and do yearn for what the founders envisioned but I'm not sure that the current USA will ever represent that vision again.

The country isn't the government; it's the constitutional foundation which the government is constantly infringing on and attempting to infringe on

So you would exclude George Washington from a list of patriots?

Interesting and illustrative.

But, but, but I was always taught in the private schools I attended patriots are destined to fight against tyrannical gooberment. What we have now appears to be overplaying its hand and the people will rise in November unlike anything you and I have ever seen at the ballot box.

People of every stripe, creed, color and party are complaining about what is happening.

George Washington was fighting for a nation that already declared independence.

One guy at work who is a minority and definitely not a Republican supporter told me last week about Biden "this cat is hurting us all." It was encouraging.

Right. George was a patriot of the US, which had declared independence from the tyrannical government that they were fighting against. That's not happening with so-called patriots today. I just find the term an odd choice as it implies a devotion to a side which they are in actuality against.

I kinda think you answered your own question.

I consider myself a Patriot because I haven’t given up Yet!

I agree with this and it is the closest thing that I can use to bridge the gap yet the term still bothers me, as does the pledge of allegiance. I'm not allegiant to any flag.

I don’t know why you would be confused, unless you actually think that our government, at many levels, but especially the federal level, actually upholds it’s oath to support, protect, and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Nobody with a brain thinks that, do they?

Good man. And we shouldn't but the gap is so wide that there has to be a real reckoning. The abuses were too great to just go back to business as usual. As the Declaration of Independence states, when this government becomes that which we fight against, we should cast it off and form a new one.

You're confusing "government" with "country." I love my country, but despise its government.

I felt this way for about a week last year. Then realized I was accepting defeat, said frick that and untwisted my panties.
I love my country, I despise and mistrust the government. Even after we reclaim our country and "fix shite", I will never ever trust the government.
