Please accept my apologies if this was discussed since 12/28. I work in the school system and this was sent to administrators to show just how much seconds can matter. Hard to go through this piece and not be angry but it goes to show questionable decisions can be made in times of chaos.

Sun Sentinal

quote:

Failures by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and school district cost children their lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. A gunman with an AR-15 fired the bullets, but a series of blunders, bad policies, sketchy training and poor leadership helped him succeed. Information reported over 10 months by the South Florida Sun Sentinel reveals 58 minutes of chaos on campus marked by no one taking charge, deputies dawdling, false information spreading, communications paralyzed and children stranded with nowhere to hide. To be sure, a number of teachers and police officers performed heroically. But an examination of the day’s events reveals that the Sheriff’s Office and school district were unprepared for the crisis.

Here’s a minute-by-minute look at those critical moments on Feb. 14, 2018.

This goes hand in hand with DeSantis relieving the sheriff of his duties.

Sheriff Israel allowed it to happen
They should fire the principal as well
And look into whomever took the call from the aunt or cousin who warned of cruz’s Plans. Or whomever that agent reported to. SO many failures

Amazing work by the sun sentinel
That was a really “interactive” article.

So many cowards!!! It’s astounding to watch the mass cowards in addition to the movements of the mass shooter

Fascinating interactive article with video and screen grabs I hadn't seen before.
Absolutely INFURIATING. This is unacceptable two decades after Columbine where ALL law enforcement in this country is now trained to locate and neutralize the threat as rapidly as possible.
Broward county is a mess and children died because of it.

The level of cowardice and incompetence is mind-boggling. I was struck by the part where it said some of the Broward deputies told investigators that they couldn’t recall the last time they received active shooter training.

Props to the Coral Springs officers for knowing what to do and using their training.

It's a shame they weren't first on the scene.

Unreal. Every law enforcement officer I know would have ran right in. These guys are chicken shite. Watching from a safe distance as children they are supposed to protect get slaughtered. If that football coach would have been armed he might could have stopped it. I'm a teacher. I keep a 7 iron in my classroom because we aren't allowed to have weapons. I teach my students what we are going to do in a crisis situation but damn if the police are going to sit back and wait then we are just sitting ducks in here.

Libs are all about Hope and Change.

They hoped really hard that the active shooter situation would change.
