Marvel Star Anthony Mackie: America Keeps Black Men from Seeing Their Potential

Breitbart
Anthony Mackie, the star of Disney’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, says taking on the role of Captain America was humbling but difficult because America prevents black men from succeeding.

“I’ve worked so long in this business, and I’ve done so many things that I felt were not appreciated or overlooked or things that were not considered to be worthy of promotion — and this is like my first promotion,” Mackie told Variety.

The Hurt Locker actor is not just frustrated that he thinks he has been overlooked. Mackie feels it is a societal problem for all black men in America.

In the very woke Disney series, Mackie’s Sam Wilson frets about taking on the mantle of Captain America left to him when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) gave up his shield in the last of the Avengers movies, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

“The fear of representing a country who doesn’t represent you, you know, was something that’s not only unfathomable but hard to overcome,” Mackie told the paper. Anthony Mackie also recently admitted that he wanted to put an anti-Trump gibe in his final woke monologue on the state of the world and its heroes but the idea was shot down by series producers. Still, there were plenty of other woke moments in the series.

In one scene, Mackie’s Sam Wilson was turned down for a loan by a bank officer, a scene that the series showrunner, Malcolm Spellman, said was meant to highlight the real-life experiences of blacks in the U.S. today.

In another scene, Sam Wilson discovers that the U.S. government lied to him and led him to believe he would take over as the new Captain America. Instead, the government gave the role to a white soldier.

Spellman also noted that the producers specifically aimed to hire only black writers for the series to focus on race issues on the Disney show.

I mean, doesn't this sum up the relationship between Dems and POC every election cycle? Promises made but never kept.

I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you're not that great of an actor. You're not Denzel.

So...this is a story about an incredibly famous, wealthy black actor lamenting to Variety his inability to have succeeded due to America keeping him down.

Sort of like when LeBron claims the same thing.

Or Oprah.

At some point people will see how ridiculous this is, right?

I wonder if blacks earn more than 13% of entertainer salaries 2021? It would be fun to see this w/ and w/o professional sports included in entertainment.

I wish that grown-arse men would stop supporting these woke comic book films and tv shows.

Spoiler alert: It's all make believe.

So there are no black men in the US who have been allowed to succeed?

I'm thinking the heir to Captain America's shield would feel otherwise.

ETA - Do you want to get Brie Larson'ed, Cap? Because this is how you get Brie Larson'ed.

Does he want a participation medal? It's fricking Hollywood. For a B list actor he has had quite the career longevity.

You not being a great actor might have something to do with it.

Black Americans have a higher average household income and level of individual educational attainment than any black people anywhere in history. Any list of the most famous and wealthy black people in human history will be made up of 90% Americans in the last 150 years. True there are a few European countries where black people live longer, but black Americans live longer than any black population in Africa.

So I guess I don’t really see how America can be keeping them from reaching their potential when black Americans have set the bar for black achievement. On the whole their potential appears to have been achieved routinely ONLY in the Americas and Western Europe.

Huh, I'm guessing no white mechanic, plumber, electrician, carpenter, consultant, lawyer, doctor, nurse, teacher, actor, or whatever ever said these words before.

Neither he or the sister had any income, he was hoping to get a loan based on who he was, not any collateral he could put down. Of course the bank isn't going to give him a 6 figure loan

If anything he tried to defraud the system by saying he had no income. In the Winter Soldier we are introduced to him as a disabled vet, so he would have money incoming
