I’m in no position to comment on that. I’ve just never been to China.

It’s something I wonder about though.

How much damage did Mao do? Did he destroy traditional culture, and with it any sense of personal virtue?

Or did he have little to no effect in the end? Is rural China largely unchanged? And just the way it’s always been, for thousands of years?
