PA court orders new congressional map due to alleged gerrymandering

'In a 5-2 decision, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled the electoral map violated the state’s Constitution by manipulating the district boundaries to marginalize Democratic voters, a practice called partisan gerrymandering. '
'The court’s five Democratic members said the congressional map “clearly, plainly and palpably violates the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.” Both Republican justices dissented.'
'The state Senate president, Joe Scarnati, and majority leader, Jake Corman, both Republicans, called the court’s deadline “impossible” and said they would request a stay from the U.S. Supreme Court. '
No surprises here, a Dem-heavy court rules for the Dems.
Supreme Court decision in other cases is pending!

Experts have held up Pennsylvania as one of the most extreme examples of gerrymandering, pointing to bizarrely shaped districts that have earned nicknames like “Goofy kicking Donald Duck.” The Republican-controlled legislature created the current map in 2011
For the sake of context.

No comment about the republican judges ruling for republicans? I guess that’s okay?
Both sides are equally partisan

Well, we all know this happens, from both sides.
I have yet to see a reasonable solution, though.

Yes you have, you just don't like it

This is the part of the thread where I’d like all the Dems to thank Obama for getting their party demolished on the state level so that Republicans could gerrymander the crap out of virtually every state . And then than Hillary for losing so that GEOTUS can pack the SCOTUS to overturn rulings like this.

OK, what is it? Because I really have never seen anything in this direction. Not something I have paid much attention to, but clearly you know all about what I have studied.

Teke - who was elected from that district, and where does he reside?

OK, dickhead, what is it?
It starts with repealing sections of the vra, do I go further or is it already in the "you don't like it" zone?

Upvoted for humor, but you are confusing the non-Louisiana folk!
This is the real Louisiana Congressional map:
But Cedric’s majority black 2nd District is tortured at best.

That is the problem with Minority-Majority districts they will concentrate Democrat voters into one district while inversely concentrating Republicans into another district.
That is why you can’t win with Voting Rights Act and satisfy everyone.
Terrebonne Parish is about to do this with its Judicial Judges and draw districts to ensure a Minority-Majority district has its choice. Even though a minority judge was elected without opposition in a parish wide race. Since Terrebonne has used at at large districts for its divisions. How is that for progress?
Are we eventually going to have to carve out districts for every minority group out there. So here will be our future, if for example the Hispanic or Asian community in an area reaches X percent, let’s force that political subdivision to draw a district to where a Hispanic or Asian will win even though you have to create a district that is the width of a road or property.
It is only a matter of time that the Voting Rights Act will have outgrown its usefulness or the shoe will be on the other foot.
Some day in the future due to population decline, we will all be minorities as no group will have more than 50 percent of the population.
