It seems that world overpopulation is rarely discussed as a problem? Is it too politically incorrect? Seems like a good argument for liberals for abortion. Reducing or abating population growth would also help to address pollution, greenhouse gases, etc. China tried to address their overpopulation with birth limits and were vilified for it. Is there just no viable solution?

China is going to have a problem sooner or later because for years you could only have one child and most people wanted males. Many female infants were aborted or killed early in life. They have a severe shortage of females right now because of their policies.

Birth control/education/sterilization are better choices than abortion.

China has too many males.

India has too many unwed females IIRC, to the point where bachelors are discouraged from traveling in some areas lest they be kidnapped and forced to marry.

Sounds like there could be a theoretical solution to that problem that neither side are likely to consider.

Whenever you bring up the subject of overpopulation you have to address those continents, countries and ethnicity of people most responsible.

That's where you usually get in trouble.

Yep. Most races in that region don't like interracial mixing, especially on a large scale.

because overpopulation doesn't exist long term in a free market capitalist system absent a welfare state

People only reproduce beyond the carrying capacity (which is dependent on nature, innovation, and land utilization) when they're paid to do so or are otherwise subsidized by governments.

Wasn't necessarily advocating abortion, but overpopulation IS a problem and I'm just not hearing anyone address it. No loud advocacy groups like other issues.

Anyone who thinks the world is overpopulated should start first by offing themselves.

Anyone who thinks the world isn't overpopulated is too self centered for a frank discussion.

Malthus was discussing it over 200 years ago.

Ya, "overpopulation" isn't a problem in of itself. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense as a problem. You can't have more people than resources to support it. People die on the fringes where resources are scarce.

Now, what is a problem, and is always a problem no matter what population you have, is resource destruction. A sudden loss of that would be a problem, but that is largely an independent issue and the amount of people who die from such a situation depends on how much and how sudden those resources are destroyed.

Europe and the US has low birth rates, China's one child policy has left them with a lopsided male population, and the Middle East, South America and African populations are exploding. We are watching idocracy take place in front of our eyes.

We don't have an overpopulation problem yet and even if we did, would you be in favor of murder to solve it? If so, how do you decide who gets murdered?

See the "field stones" in south georgia. no one knows who erected them and it's a monument to the new world order and keeping the population down. Look it up on wikipedia
