It's grant-funded textbook entrapment.
I don’t like it either, and I wish that resources were better used.
However, entrapment only works as a defense if it overcomes a person’s natural resistance to commit the crime.
If the decoys were badgering folks for a long time or offered some ridiculous incentive like 1,000 bucks that might be enough to use entrapment.
But just walking up and “hey mistering” is probably not going to lead to a successful entrapment defense.

I have no problems with stings like prostitution where a sexy female cop dresses provocatively and stands around waiting on solicitations to come in.
I DO have a problem with cops, or their agents (like these kids), actively seeking out and requesting a crime be committed. If someone volunteers to commit crime of their own accord, so be it. To engage others and solicit crime from others should be criminal in itself (it is a crime to influence after all).
In fact, if I were a juror on such a case I would find the defendants all not guilty without hesitation.

This discussion is the positive. it alerts those that may commit this crime to not commit the crime. It is not about catching, it about stoppin

quote:Not really. A core tenet of small c conservatives is that govt, by its very nature, cannot be trusted. That's the whole point of being a small c conservative. We view govt as basically, a necessary evil that should be kept pretty tightly in the rails lest it give in to it's natural tendencies.
You sound like a raging liberal in this thread.

Not to mention they could just announced that they're conducting these stings without ever actually doing it and have the same deterring effect without wasting resources.
Of course, that was a cop who knew the point of speed laws shouldn't be fricking revenue.

Are there actual bait cars in the area?
And a bait car still requires a proactive act by a car thief. Basically, he has to be a thief looking to steal a car.
The people walking in to the liquor store weren't there looking for opportunities to by beer for underage folks. They were just there to be alcohol.

You mean they can entrap a guy for buying a 19 year old a six pack but can’t call ICE on an illegal alien that they arrest for some other reason.
Jeez Louise California. Enjoy your eutopian sanctuary. I’ll stick with my banana republic goin on in Louisiana and enjoy my go-cup
as I exit the bar.

Sounds like an intelligence test. Are you smart enough to refrain from buying beer for a kid who is a stranger or are you a complete tard.?

Don't like it.
It's a "crime" created by the police. Obviously the simple solution is, don't buy alchohol for kids. But the way I see it is that the people weren't out to buy beer for kids. It's a crime that wouldn't have happened if not for the cops manufacturing the morality test.

I rank reporting illegals to ICE higher than this shite.
