And the "staffing shortages" is how many hospitals run and not as much to do with the Covid situation as the article implies.

Just like any other business. You don’t staff it if you don’t have sustained demand for it. It’s kind of crazy that so many fiscal conservative capitalist minded people are blasting the hospitals for being understaffed when it’s just business doing what business does. If you want max capacity at all times, then you’ve stepped right into the socialized medicine trap.

[Should only admit those under 60, and save the most likely to survive.]

I knew Death Panels were just around the corner.

My wife works A hospital and she, like many of her co-workers were "encouraged" to take their vacation time. She had 3 weeks. She took 1 week off at a time, like the rest of the staff. Now, why would they have done that?

Because hospitals aren't doing well right now. Overall cases are down everywhere. People are afraid to go, elective procedures cancelled, etc. Hospitals everywhere are trying to cut expenses, and having their employees take PTO is the easiest first step to take some of that strain off of their balance sheet as revenue is way down.

They are trying not to fire or furlough your wife.

Sorry. IDGAF

The left already exposed itself on this. Government cannot be in the business of deciding which desires of human beings are "essential". The moment they said, "OMG, the virus...……..don't do anything...…….well, unless your a LIBERAL protestor"...……...nothing they ever say after will matter to me at all.

But, to the OP point. So fricking what. It's a logistics question. Nothing more. I'm over the fear mongering about hospital capacity. It's bull shite.

quote:

The patients range in ages, with many in their 20s, 30s and 40s, a departure from the start of the pandemic, when most patients skewed older.

That quote is just embarrassing. I wonder if the OP even knows why.

I mean...…...soooooo dumb.

Early on, CASES skewed old because that's the people who mostly get sick.

NOW...…..CASES are less skewed because young people ALWAYS got it...…….they just didn't get sick.

Literally every doctor alive knows or should know this. So, one can only assume O'Neal is a fricking moron.

I bet you 80-90% of the ICU patients are 60 and up.

What's dumb about that? They are saying a larger number of young people are being admitted to the hospital now vs before when it was more older people.

This has been the talking point for the past week or two. My questions are:
1 what capacity is your hospital currently at?
2 what capacity range is your hospital normally (without or pre Covid)
3 what percentage of your admissions are Covid related and not another underlying condition?
4 what are the capacity rates ( current and normal) of other hospitals in the area (are other hospitals shipping Patients to your facility and freeing up beds at their facility?)
Thanks.

And that's the fricking retarded part. These younger people DO NOT NEED to be admitted. They need to be sent home and quarantine themselves. It hardly effects 99.9% of people 0-40 yrs of age.

How many of those admitted really need hospitalization, and how many are simply demanding to be hospitalized because they found out they have the COVID from a free test and their hospital stay will also be free?

since February, 56,790 people have died as a direct result of Covid-19 infection, per the CDC. Another 74,530 have died with Covid-19 in their system, but which died as a result of influenza and or pneumonia.

LINK

You can play panic all you want, little man, but people understand the risk, and it just isn't that great for most people. During the same period last year, 1,216,000 people died.

Per Nola.com's Covid page, about 17% of Covid-related deaths in Louisiana have been in the 1-49 age range.

I don’t believe them. They likely run extremely lean during the best of times to save cash for the big wigs and now when there’s a slight uptick in hospitalizations they freak out and act like it’s the Black Plague. Staff your hospitals better chief.
