On Monday, Oregon State changed its law regarding gas pumping. Under House Bill 2482, gas stations that reside in a county with less than 40,000 are allowed to have self-service gas stations.
Here is their response.
Here is their response.

“No! Disabled, seniors, people with young children in the car need help. Not to mention getting out of your car with transients around and not feeling safe too. This is a very bad idea. Grrr,” Cathy Dahl commented.
quote:
“I’ve lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas. I had to do it once in California while visiting my brother and almost died doing it. This a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas. I can’t even,” Mike Perrone said.
quote:
“Not a good idea, there are lots of reason to have an attendant helping, one is they need a job too. Many people are not capable of knowing how to pump gas and the hazards of not doing it correctly. Besides I don’t want to go to work smelling of gas when I get it on my hands or clothes. I agree Very bad idea,” Tina Good mentioned.
quote:
I’ll never know the privilege of pumping my own gas. I live in the civilized part of central Oregon.
quote:
Pray for Oregon. In counties less then 40,000 people can now legally pump their own gas. Whoever signed this legislation, history will not be kind to you.

In New Jersey you can't pump your own gas. I disagree with the law, but did appreciate it when I was there on a business trip and it was about 15 degrees outside.

Yeah I flew out of NJ, 15 degrees? Meh we haven't seen 10 degrees in over a week. Just had the fifth coldest day on record and the coldest in 58 years.

I wanted to call that out as being fake but I found the link from a Google search from ABC15, and those comments are just the most cringeworthy thing I’ve read today.
It’s early yet.

15 dollars an hour too.
I liked the 'qualified' remark.

First job I ever had was at my uncle's station back in '67 when I was 15. Salary - 80 cents an hour. Worked 10 hrs. a day 6 days a week making $8 a day. Don't know if that makes me want to or .

Please tell me you really think a person said this seriously. For as much as you make fun of people getting trolled you sure are an idiot.

I pulled into a Shell in Oregon hopped out and tried pumping my own gas and some dude came sprinting to stop me. I gave Him a WTF then he realized I was from out of state and explained that he had to do it per state laws I shook my head and said OK.

Only Portland will be seeing that kind of minimum wage in the future. It just became 11.79 in Portland and 10.25 everywhere else.

They don't do full service and I wouldn't trust any of them in there anyway.

We haven't had a full service gas pump in over 15 years here. When we did have it, I never used it. I honestly didn't know some states only allow full service gas pumps. I am actually a little startled by that and the fact that those comments may be true.

I was not aware of such laws in states like that. I have been to stations that insist on pumping the gas for you.

full service
As I told the OT, it isn't full service. All they do is pump your gas.
It's slow enough as it is without that.
